CITE KIHIAEBICJIIRS We, the mighty VALPARAISIAN class of summer '64, entered Eagle Rock Junior High School on September 15, 1958. Two and a half years of Junior High flew by quickly and we became mighty A 9's. The results of our A9 class election made Charles Morreale our class President, Nancy Niesen and Bruce Kohl our Vice-Presidentsg Kathy Covellone, Secretaryg Dee Gillespie and Mike Farmer Treasurersg Robin Luckett, Historian, and Marilyn Moffitt our Eagle Scream Representative. Our mighty class then filled the Junior High cabinet with Craig McCormack as President, Dixie Sorenson, Vice-President, and Terrie McCormack as Secretary. Our last semester flew by, as we busied ourselves with activities as the leaders of Eagle Rock's Junior High School. Soon we were in the Sylvan Theater graduating to the theme of Memories from our Educational Diary . Speakers on this subject were Mary Miller, Mike Matthews, Phyilis Roberts, and Pamela Evans! Our last class activity as A9's was our graduation party at the Oxy Pool. After a wonderful summer, we returned as B 10's looking forward to three more years of experiences with our new classmates from Washington Irving, and neighboring schools. Our first activity as senior high students was the B 10 reception. The theme of the reception was By the people, for the people , our speakers were Esther Garcia, Mike Matthews, Patti Lou Murry, and Phyllis Roberts, with Esther Garcia taking first place. Meri Fisher was chosen as our Cotton Cluster Attendant. Our mighty class was also known in the field of sports. Jim Ruddell made All League UB Football, Ray Schrudder took second in the City Track Finals, and Richard Starr was named to the Second String All League Baseball. Janice Somple, Louie Rodriguez and Nick Bomicino represented our class as cheerleaders. In our A 11 semester we elected Jerry Schutte as our class President, Kathy Covel- lone and Bruce Kohl as Vice-Presidents, Pat Denaro as Secretary, Jean Kuwahara and Dick Herling Treasurers. During our A 11 semester our class began to organize under the leadership of Mr. Nance. The semester was filled with committies organizing our Sweater Day. For our B 12 semester we elected Rick Gutierrez as President: Jerry Schutte and Kathy Covellone as Vice-Presidents, Dixie Sorenson as Secretary, Janice Somple and Dan Cantore as Treasurersg and Esther Garcia, Historian. As Seniors we now had the privilege of the Senior Case, and column in the Eagle Scream, and the Senior Lawn. On November 8, 1963, Eagle Rock High School rang out with our mighty class name, VALPARAISIANS. We proudly showed off our outstanding colors of Turquoise Blue and Raven Black. Our Sweater Night was held at the Pickwick Recreational Center. After returning from Pickwick, most of our class attended a never-to-be forgotten party. Our name was derived from the city of Valparaiso in South America. In Spanish our name means Dwellers of Paradise . Our emblem shows a pathway leading to the valley of praadise. During Football Season most of the Varsity team came from the mighty VAL- PARAISIAN class. VVe had such fine players as Bob Coscarelli, Dick Herling, Rick Gutierrez, Keith Cain, Jim Jeter, Norm Pickett, Larry Gentry, and John Edwards. Our Homecoming Court consisted of Queen Dixie Sorenson, and Princesses Robin Luckett and Kim Kocher. Our Drill Team was lead by Captain Ann Normington, and her two co-captains Chris Bruck and Billie Zappey. During our Senior year at Eagle Rock we had Jerry Morse, Kim Kocher, Dave Brady, Dee Gillespie, Jerry Schutte, Dixie Sorenson, Nick Bomicino, and Nancy Niesen as our Varsity cheerleaders. The Fall Play was The Miracle Worker and it starred two VALPARAISIANS, Kim Kocher and Jim Coleman. In our last semester Eagle Rock High School elected to its cabinet Jerry Schutte, Student Body Presidentg Secretary, Kim Kocher: Senior Board President, Mary Mlllerg Lettergirl President, Sue Holsappleg Letterman President, Mike Farmer, Girls' League President, Paula Silverg Boys' League President, Dan Cantore, Knight President, Rick Gutierrezg Moshitamoi President, Robin Luckettg Kabanoka President, Billie Zappeyg Garconette President, Susan Phillipsg Vendeurette President, Nancy Skala, G.A.A. President, Kathee Smith, Editor of the Totem, Dee Gillespie, and Eagle Scream Editor, Janice Somple. We presented the Elysian class with their senior breakfast on January 17th. The theme of the breakfast was Elysium . On February 4, we reached the top of the ladder, as the mighty Senior A's. For our last semester of leadership we chose Craig McCormack, Presidentg Dixie Sorenson and Dick Herling, Vice-Presidentsg Jo Anne Tartaglia, Secretaryg Dee Gillespie and Rick Betteridge, Treasurersg and Chris Coonley, Historian.
