PERICLEAN HISTORY In September, 1952, our class started its long climb to six success- ful years at Eagle Rock. We were somewhat scared at first, but soon became accustomed to our new surroundings. As some of us joined various interest and service clubs we settled down to junior high life. We elected Carol Norman and Marilyn Swartz as 7th and 8th grade Cotton Cluster attendants. Mary Lou Morreale became Cotton Cluster Princess in the 9th grade. As time passed. we became mighty A9's and elected our class officers, who were: Mary Lou Morreale, President, Betty Rossi and Ron Hansen, Vice-Presidents Pat Conley, Secretary, Gracie Smith and Larry Ramsey, Treasurersg and Rosemarie Hiller, Historian. Barry Noonan led the lunior High as its president. Junior High graduation day brought many cases of nerves to our classmates, but we somehow managed to run the ceremony smooth- ly. Mike D'0razzi, Linda Macy, Paul Bryner, Shirley Templin and Velda Young spoke on the theme, Morning on a New Horizon. After graduation we all had a wonderful time at a class beach party at Playa del Rey. In the B10 we united with the other part of our class that came from Irving. Our B10 reception was held and Mary Lou Morreale won the speech contest. Time flew by and we were soon A11's. Under the leadership of Mr. Nance, our class sponsor, we started class organization. We elected Barry Noonan, Presidentp Lorraine Dominguez and Ralph Parman, Vice-Presidents, lean McClenathon, Secretary, Mary'Lou Morreale and Gilbert Fernandez, Treasurers, and Helene Nelson, Historian. Our Junior years saw many of our class members join Kabanokas, Vendeurettes, Garconettes, Squires and in the latter half Moshi- tamoi and Knights. Velda Young, Ralph Parman and Merrill Reed had the honor of being chosen to attend Girls' and Boys' State. Our Senior year started with a bang as we surprised the whole school with our name, Pericleans, and our colors of seafoam green and charcoal grey. The class went to the Huntington-Sheraton for Sweater Night and had a never-to-be-forgotten evening. We were now Seniors and had the privilege of a column in the paper, the Senior case, and eating on the Senior Lawn. We chose our B12 class officers: Spike Burlingame, President, Helene Nelson and Gilbert Fernandez, Vice-Presidents, Helen lo Larrison, Secretary, ludy Holler and Nick Herff, Treasurers, and Sue Hiss, Historian. Football season began and many of our girls joined the Drill Team, whose co-captains were Lorraine Dominguez and Mary Lou Morreale. We were proud of the Periclean boys who achieved fame in Football and Cross-Country. Alan Shields, probably our school's greatest football player, was chosen First String All-City, and Larry Ramsey was chosen Third String All-City. Gilbert Fernandez and Bob Berg- strom represented our class as cheerleaders. We were especially proud of Homecoming, as Mary Lou Parsons was chosen Queen and Nancy Cooper Princess. Our class was outstanding in Leadership. The students elected Spike Burlingame as Student Body President, Sue Hise as Student Body Vice-President, Mary Lou Morreale as Secretary, and Ralph Parman as Boys' League President. As we' enter our Senior A semester we happily anticipate the many activities and happy times that are in store for us. Our class wishes to thank Mr. Nance for all he has done to further our success. When we graduate, we will go a bit sorrowfully, as we leave a happy part of our lives behind. But we will always have warm and fond memories of Eagle Rock. We shall strive to make our Alma Mater proud of us. Respectfully submitted, SUE HISE Pericleans Class Historian
