O Q uve ' Planned and prepared by one of the busiest and most active organizations of the school, the HI TIMES, student paper of ERHS is published weekly in the Vilas County News-Review. It's primary purpose being to infonn and to entertain, the Hi Times features a wide variety of mate- rial designed to appeal to the general reading public as well as the student body. Some of the many activities of the staff are: the sale of Hi Times pencils with the complete basketball schedule on them, sponsoring various movies, check- ing coats at basketball games, selling homecoming pins, and traditionally giving the first dance of the season. High-lighting all these doings is the Hi Times banquet which was held this year at the Gateway. At this time new members are taken in and editorial positions for the following year are assigned. The six seniors making up a part of the staff of thirteen, will receive journalism pins for their work on the paper. They are: J. Bumett, R. Ehle, J. Carlson, D. Hall, W. Richmond, and Ce Richmond. 23 QTQQMQSQQ As everyone knows, Bob Pri ps was always crazy about airplanes. He liked to take a lit ale spill' whenever he got the chance. When in E.R.H.S. he wrote themes, book reports, and gave much information about airplanes. Well, one day Bob had an accident and much to everyone's sorrow, he didn't pull through. Now Bob is in heaven and he's looking down on all his old friends, and this is what he sees. Chancing to look in on a Congregational Church, Bob almost dropped his teeth when he saw that the organist was Don Hall. A last-minute brainstorm to further his musical ability. Fred Sanborn is one of the few who did not miss his calling. Fred is a first class filibuster at the White House. Via the angelic grape-vine Bob finds out that Gerry Ellerman is still the only female member of a famous club started in high school. Bob found Dave Helge making his debut at Carnegie Hall, dressed in a tux- edo, top-hat, and spats, and smoking a 104 cigar. Passing over Ghost Town, Colorado, Bob found Yvonne Merkel ably running the headquarters for F. F. clubs situated all over the United States. Being the founder of this organ- ization, she made all original members presidents of clubs in their states. East of Eagle River, Bob sees nSchmidtyf, who has taken over Dan Burns' and is slowly running Perry's out of business. Janet Fiedler is a Power's Model and is, also, drawing the highest wages ever paid. Ind no wonder, she's- modeling bathing suits. Much to Bob's surprise he finds Jackie Roderick running the biggest gambling casino in Nevada. She's made Her flrst million and has only had the place two years. Flo Petts is another who has not missed her'calling. She beca e a lady C?7'wrestler and took the title away from WGeorgeous George.W And Jean Hamilton is married to Clark Gable's younger brother. They lived in Hollywood and Jeanie is an ideal actor's wife. Speaking of Hollywood, who else should Bob see but Janis Carlson in the movies. They just couldn't resist her innocent look, l guess. 50 you suppose she will marry as much as others in Hollywood do? Oh! Yes, here he sees the Godleski Twins keeping the town busy guessing which twin has the toni. A while Back they both got one and couldn't even tell each other apart. Bob finds Marv Elliott turned domestic and is running a restaurant. The back is a combination gym, pool hall, and bar. The specialty is some- thing called WMarvin's Miracle.n And Rita Ehle is seen supervising one of the largest telephone companies in the nation. Her motto is-'A good 'Line' makes the best connections.' Then heasees that all Eagle River Housewives turn on their radios at 10:00 A. M. and tune in WUBT to hear Hazel Luttkus and all the little 'Hazel Nuts.' Colleen Murphy has spent the past I6 years at Whitewater, she went to learn, but with her brain she ended up teaching. Bob says-'Yepl Vanita Dotson is really rollin' in the doughl' Notes: -she's working at Schmidt's Bakery. Then he sees two lasses from Eagle who have made good in television. They are Audre Ludwi and Dawn Ramthun. Audrey sings on the Milton Berle Show and Bawn reformes and is now playing the famous UMrs CPamJ North.n And who is the manager for them?--None other than Charlene Dotson who gets 301 of their take. Yesterday she interviewed Mrs. Carol Teufert Numrich, who won the first prize for having the best-looking children. III five of them. Bob saw that E.R.H.S. produced one author from his old class and that is none other than Wilma Nickells. She wrote WNickells for Hockey, but not one cent for School.u of course, Vida Rand always did seem lazy so Bob wasn't surprised to see her working C75 as life-guard out at the Beach. Bob then decided to look over his old Alma Mater and who should he see driving a bus-but Marion Carlson. She drives the late shift for the kids who want to sleep until 5:55 A. M. Martha Krevolt has done well for her- self. She owns her own Abstract Business and she can type so fast that she needs no hired help. Gwen Rand had done well, too. She's the head of the Baby Department at the St. Germaine Hospital. Her prize brats are the John Eliason triplets, Johnny's hoping some new cars come out so he can teach is sons to drive. Bob happens to look northeast and he sees Shirley Conpleton as a female taxidermist who stuffs exclusively mice, chipmunks, and ruinea pigs, Pat Liston holds the title of Miss Afghan of 1960 for making the most anirettiest afghans. Polly Bent liked Flo's part so well in the Senior Class Play, that as soon E-she vraduated she took wrestlinr' lessons at North Central U. S. Passinr over Rhinelander, Bob sees that Andrea Hansen took over Clyde Downiny's show of spinninr popular platters. Reports say that she sneaks in a classical now and then, thouvh. And Ruth Newell is signed up with Spike Jones's band. She plays trombone in this famous organization. Doris Tuscher has taken over Shilling's Drug Store in Hinocqua. Lois ':feE'l'Elps her too. Lois has charge of the dopes --or drugs to is famous for her marijuana cigarettes, Bob finds that Vay Brook has been hired by the E. R. Recreation Committee to teach tennis to anyone wishing to learn. As a division, she sometimes teaches boxing or golf. Dave Gunderson and Jack Burnett are seen running a taxi service. When Dave has a date, Jack drives, and vice-versa. It's not quite too handy on a double date. The WRoamersH are back in E.R.H.S., giving another lecture course. Featured as a new attraction, is Dona Croker-the famous pianist. Bob sees that Joyce Byinfton and Donna Osterberg have a USweet Snelling Skunk Farm.W They hike the best perfume this side of Conover. Gloria Eastman is still busy at her favorite past time-ndoing nothing.H Hildred Corriveau won first prize at the Vilas County Fair, for her crocheted Bedspread. Mrs. Trunce, Nilly's ex-Home Ec. teacher, got second. Bob sees Joe and Stanley Kukanich workinpf together on a fam which is run scitifically '5rT'ie'c'hanically,--by pushing' buttons, no less. Yep! Stan pushes the buttons while Joe does the dirty work when anythinr goes wrong. There's Bob's Wbosom buddyn Earl Hedberg workinr his heart out trying to oecome a champion ski-jumper. His form, Cfor jumping, that isj, has certainly improved since the Renberg days at Conover. Yep! Bob Swett really did have basketball in his blood. The two things Bob loved most were basket- ball and girls! Well, he's happy now that he's not a job where there are both. He's a coach at Vassar. Bob sees that Don Bush has been offered a movie contract by MCM, but rebised it. iefwants to become a missionary'and devote the rest of his life to foreirn people. Bob is really surprised when he sees Jean Fiedler married to Ole Olson an nIrishman.H Betty Lindquist is now happily married to the man- ager of the Eagle River Falcons. Ruby Perry, now Hrs. J. D. Daniels, wife of Rev. Daniels, is seen doinh excellent work with the Ladies' Christian Aid. Gladys Kauzlaric and Vera Stetson are seen layinr bricks for a bunvalow. He couldn't figure out whether they were building a house for themselves or making a little extra between basketball games. Now Bob sees a heart-breaking sight. Widow Wannie Johnson and her six children are living on a pension. This is due to the last experiment in Atomic power, of husband Asa. Suddenly, friend Bob hears music from Little Rock, Arkansas, and finds it's Charmaine Pregont singing soprano solos for the biggest audience he's ever seen. BTubGTp'ld buddy Jim Wierichs is still in Conover, running a General Store which includes a ice, bank, and funeral parlor. Connie Richmond is working in the hospital which was donated to her in behalf of her courape beyond the call of duty in brinring Deen's three boys into this old world. Their names are Herbert, Hubert, and Honroe. Audrey Larson has been spending her time playinr the piano at the NStork Clu5.N She plays and sings ntorchy' love songs. Bob has decided that one look at his fellow graduates is enough to last him to eternity. so he slowly floated back. fllolnlofaf Manta HERMAN CARR, a lovable sort of nan --------------------------- Mayne Kay MRS. Eagle River, in their first encounter of the year, lost a rugged game of basketball to the Rhlnelander Hodags, 50-28. The following night, the Eagles playing host to the Crandon Cardinals, were defeated by the score of 50-59. Playing their first conference game, the fighting Eagles toppled the Elcho Hornets, 46-25. Coming from behind, after trailing 20-14 at half time, the Eagles then capped their second straight conference victory, from the Winocdua Islanders, 35-27. Batt- ling the Phelps Knights for undisputed first place, Eagle River lost the crucial contest, 54-41. In the final seconds, Eagle River lost a thriller to a snappy Three Lakes five, 40-58. Displaying a fine brard of basketball Eagle nosed out a strong Rhlnelander quintet, 41-40. In another non-conference tilt, Park Falls downed the Red and Blue 49-35. In their top eHbrtof the year, the Eagles upset the undefeated Crandon Cardinals, 45-40. Starting the second five and letting the first five finish, Eagle rolled to an easy 52-26 victory over Elcho. At Minocqua the Islanders, led by Herrick and Hermann, edged out the Eagles 50-41, and thus avenged an earlier defeat at the hands of Eagle River. Then the Eagles traveled to Wabeno where they were upset by the Logrollers, 55-51. Playing on their home court, they lost the fourth conference game to Phelps, 40-55. Playing top-notch ball, the Eagles showed their potential ability, and dumped the Three Lakes Bluejays, 58-27. In a return engagement with Wabeno, the Eagles evened the score, with a victory. A powerful Park Falls team was too much for the fighting Eagles and Park Falls took the decision, 66-48. Eagle beat White Lake in the Jamboree at Crandon 38-32, thus taking fourth place in the con- ference. Don Hall was a high point man for Eagle River, scoring a total of 252 points in seventeen games. Ed and Jack Godleski played outstanding ball throughout the year3Jam: awring 140 points to be second high and also winning the free throw trophy. Marvin Elliott and David Helge displayed good basketball technioue at all times. B. Swett, D. Gunder- son, G. Schmidt, J. Burnett, and D. Karenke completed the first ten. D. Hall and M. Elliott made all conference. The HBH team should be complimented on their fine playing and smmmd promise of a great team next year. YTQQSQSEMMILQL Sitting f1'Om left: S. Kukarlich, D. Hall, D. R. H. S., the place looked cold and deserted. Not exactly the sort of spot that would come to mind when you say, NI have spent four wonderful, fun-filled years herein M steps sounded hollow as I strolled down the hall. It seemed odd to glance up and see my class looking down from their picture on the wall. A dozen scenes flashed through my mind at once. Having nothing better to do I sat down and tried to them out in logical order. The year I was a Frosh---centuries ago it seems, but what a year that was! The Senior girls gave their Fresh- man sisters a party. NJust to get better acquainted with the 'young' kids.u We got ourselves into all the different organizations, forensics, football, basketball, band, Hi Times, and glee club. Yes, we were really off to a great start! I saw m self as a Sophomore quite used to the old routine. Together with the gang we sponsored the Rhinelander Male Chorus---made lots of money too. That year the school got football lights. Some of our boys made the first string in athletics and one even copped the free throw trophy, not to mention our class winning the inter-school basketball contest. Juniors---smooth, suave, sophisticated Juniors. That year, how I loved it! Boy, was I a vision at our prom. NWhen You Wish Upon A Staru was the theme we finally cooked up and the whole night was a big success. we were the first class for man years to get round rings and again have a member of our class win the free throw trophy. HTake Your Medicineu was our class play. And then came that last wonderful year. To start things off with a bang we had our rib-tickling class play, UThe Boarding House Reach.H E. R. H. S. could offer standing room only the night of the play. Never before in the school's history was there such a crowd at a class play. Next we sponsored the Rhinelander Male Chorus in the form of a minstrel. Again we have record breaking attend- ance. Then a member of our class won the Bob Ashton Sportsmanship Trophy. This was the first year this trophy was ever awarded. And now we have gone to seek what the world holds for us. We sincerely hope our future can be as bright and as full of success as our high school days were. sort J .!1 --2251 3' 5. ll '!f.f.U,'s+ E 2 ' 'lla 'l 'Tw 4-sn' L 5 f X x X T xv Jw .M W We. we . gnome OUR F'ACUT.TV ????? y an N , , --Q .: . , xLL Ag L.
