Aloha! The year is 1970 and we are preparing for our grand reunion luau. As was expected, the Seniors of 1960 have come a long, long way. Our out-of-state guests are arriving at the Alonzo Acosta International Air Field. A delegation consisting of Roberto Batres, Governor of Hawaii, Chila Caballero, all district hop-scotch champion and jimmy Harrison, famous movie star now on location in Hawaii for his latest flicker Love in Moonlight have gathered to greet the newcomers. The huge Trans-Texas Hawaii Jet Airliner is being skillfully landed by Capt. Ed Kerr and his Co-Pilot, Tommy Ramirez. Down the ramp comes the glamorous socialite, Adela Chavez, followed by her mil- lionaire husband, Roberto Morales. The others missed the plane due to a tornado in Texas, but will arrive soon by boat. With the music of the Fisher brother's steel guitars in the background, Carmen Lara and Herminia Padilla are gracefully passing the Leis. Off we go in the Frank Castro Taxi Cabs to the Hotel Sunburn that is managed by Gustavo Espinosa. As our three cabs pull up to the Hotel's marquis, the elegantly dressed doorman, Joe Rodriguez, runs down to open the doors. Arthur Lehmann, the big tipper of the crowd, hands ten cents to each of the drivers, Carmen Mesa, Eva Roman and Carmen Morin. Ricardo Sifuentes and Gustavo Ruiz, the chief bell boys, rush to do their jobs. The Hotel Sunburn is noted for the athletic program it maintains for the benefit of its guests. Head of this program is former Eagle quarterback, jerry Turnbow. Speaking of athletics, we wish to remind you that several home town boys are members of the Dirty Sox team. The manager is, of course, Victor Rodriguez, and his secretary is Rosa Landin. Pat Sanchez, Esteban Luna and Ernesto Saucedo are star players on the team. Rudy Bowles refused an offer to play because he claims he prefers to get his exercise running around the rim of the Kilawea Volcano Crater. Down on the beach, the world's largest group of hula dancers managed by Ed Courtney is performing for our benefit. Sammy Ibarra and Mary Gomez are busy making leis for the dancers in case of accidents. Wire Rodriguez is skimming over the waves on his surf board and in a secluded inlet Ronny Cabe reclining in a hammock is directing his radio station. Fisherman Dick Adams is fishing off a reef with the famous Hawaiian throw net, while nearby Gravis Bibb, wearing a malo, is hunting wild pigs with a blowgun. Out on the golf links we find that after years of hard work, Felix Cerna has reached the exalted position of Head Caddy. He is caddying today for Larry Green- berg, who is playing against Sam Sneed in the Hawaiian Open Golf Tournament. Ah, we have just received word that Alejandra Lopez, Norma Perez, Paul Espinosa and Eulalio Gonzalez have just arrived at David Preston's Dude Ranch, specializing in Hawaiian music. His star entertainer is Sylvia Leh- mann, dressed in a grass skirt, twirling her baton to the music of Mary Stockley and her Hawaiian guitar. All isn't bright. While helping the world famous architect, Francisco Fuentes, build his grass huts, Fernan- do Ramos fell off the roof and was rushed to the Faith, Hope and Charity Hospital by the joe Moncada-Francisco Esquivel Ambulance Service. Dr. Raul Montemayor and Nurse Kay Nelson-the famous surgical team-performed a complicated operation on Ramos's sprained arm. They were assisted by Maria Elena Rea and Angelica De Hoyos. Norma Torralba, cub reporter for the Hawaiian Daily Guide, rushes this sensational story to her editor, Victor Villarreal. Class Colors: Green and Silver. Marta and Chelena Moreno are rushing to finish the '70 census-taking from island to island in out-rigger canoes. First to be counted are Esperanza Montano, Maria Barrera, Trinidad Cadena and Yolanda Castaneda, as they are making grass skirts for all the tourists. From here they paddle out to another island consisting of planta- tions. Kay Hansen and Vernon Reaser are tending their famous Las Vegas Stables while across the volcano from here are the huge cattle ranches belonging to Billy Sturges and Duard Weathers. Daniel Trevino is just bringing in the last harvest on his banana plantation. On the way to their last stop they have picked up Bloody Mary Flores who is up for the weekend from BaliHai The last stop is the island Kaula, the bird paradise which is owned and operated by Lazaro Rodriguez. His able secretary is someone you all remember, Antonieta La- Grange. As the census boat lands in Pearl Harbor it is twi- light time, and they stop in at the Fisherman's Palace on the South Pier just in time to catch the floorshow starring Diana Garcia and Margarita Garza. Entering, we see the weirdest sight-George Garza is leading part of his army of converted sinners, Maria Romo, Villa Mae Shipman, and Alberto Olivares in singing the George Bop. They are trying to convert everyone in sight. Further uptown, Luis Angel Rodriguez and Marilu Riojas are playing piano duets at the Bodega, much to the de- spair of the head poi chef, Alicia Gonzalez. The Postmistress General of Hawaii, Kris Ovitz, has just burst into Joy Haynes' cold water flat, interrupting the latest comtemplation of zen, with the famous phrase, joy, I got a letter!', Further uptown at the Coconut Grove, josa Bar- rientos, the songbird, featured with Jorge Escobar and Becky Rodriguez and their Hawaiian Nine, is singing Deep Purple. In the center of Honolulu we find the small pine- apple plantation belonging to Angelina Rodriguez and Manuel Roman. joe Luis Diaz grades the pineapples by slinging them into the air and judging by whichever falls fartherest which is worst. Dora Elia Torres has been flown over from Lower Slobovia by Blanca Loredo and Luz Ramon after having won the grand prize in the Why I Like Snow Con- test. She brought with her as her two guests, Mary DeHoyos and Gracie Guedea. Enrique Mata and Magdalena Rosales have just told me that while taking a ride on Bobby Rodriguez's Moon- light Sailing Concession, they heard Adelina Maldonado, President of the Hawaiian State Teachers Association, announce that Pilar Irueste has been unanimously chosen as Miss Hawaii. At the opening of a new shopping center in Hono- lulu it is disclosed that the Rexall Drug Company under the management of Bobby Mack and the H. E. B. Food Stores under the management of Pancho Casales are planning to merge due to the discovery of the cure for the common cold by Fred Reyna, who works for the Rexall Company and Franchiso Risa, who works for H. E. B. . Beverly Cage told us yesterday that after much scrimping and saving, she had finally managed to get her ring paid for, but that Melissa Spence hadn't managed to get a ring yet, because she had been placing too many bets with Graciela Heredia, her bookie at the Gallopho Race Tracks, As the sun sets over beautiful Hawaii, we find Edward Lerma and his wife, the former Miss Elia Mar- tinez of Eagle Pass, under the trees sipping coconut milk at the Misplaced Tourist Bureau. 41 S Q? 4 , 45 E3 2 2 2 tw S3 3 ii f, E E k E 'sign 4 , iii QF? 3 3 3 f 2 ? Competition, however, was extreme, so the boys failed to go as far in Interscholastic League Track and Field events as they did last year. Each boy on the team placed in district with some of the running times surpassing those of any other Eagle Pass previous track team. The 440 relay team broke the district record of 44.9, but failed to win the event. The same thing happened in the mile relay: our boys ran a time of 5:28 previous to the district meetg but again the competition was so rugged that they failed to place at the meet. 7-mm The Eagle cindermen participated in eleven meets this year, winning first place honors in the Seguin Relays, the Falfurrias Relays, and the Jaycee Relays. Second place was nabbed by the Eagles in the Brownsville Relays and the Interscholastic League District Meet, which was held in Eagle Pass. The Student Council had a very successful year. A big project of the 1959-1960 Student Council was the selection and crowning of the Homecoming Queen and Princesses. The Student Council worked very hard for the Halloween Carnival, whose profits were shared with D. E. C. A., F. F. A., and V. I. C. A huge crowd attended the carnival in spite of rainy weather. The Student Council also sponsored a formal Christmas Rainbow Ball, one of the most beautiful and enjoyable dances on record. The Eagle Pass Student Council was host for the district Student Council meet held on March 17. The visiting representatives from Del Rio High School, Del Rio Junior High, San Felipe High School, Uvalde High School, Uvalde junior High, and Eagle Pass junior High complimented our group on its fine work. The main campaign launched by the Student Council this year was the School Spirit campaign for boosting the enthusiasm of the students. On April 21 the Modern Dance Group of Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas, gave an excel- lent performance to an eager audience. This talented group was sponsored by the Student Council, whose members kept the performers in their homes. Senior representatives: J. Harrison, D Trevino, F. Reyna, R. Batres, V. Vil larreal, I.
