ElCenizo typifies the life of this region, just as the senior show, Western Jamboree, reminded us of the old West and the new- -mounted cowboys and mode rn fa rm machinery--tilled, irrigatedtracts interspersed withthe simi-arid sheep and cattle ranches long characteristic of Maverick County. Eagle Pass is a historic gateway between Texas and Mexico, and the resulting blend of civilizations affects every phase of life in our school. Spanish is the home language of more than seventy-three per cent of our stu- dents in Eagle Pass High School, and twelve per cent of our students are citizens ofthe state of Coahuila, Mexico. This is the setting of the school life recorded in our 1952 El Cenizo. May these school experiences build a firm foundation as well as happy memories! T he Staff EAGLE PASS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT C. J. GARLAND, Superintendent EAGLE Pass, Taxis Dear St udentss The theme of this yea:-'s annual being plants and flowers native to this area, I am reminded of the char- acteristics of' these plants which have a significance when applied to people. The Cenizo, for example, is usually rather drab in appearance, but latent within it is the bud that will give one of nature's most beautiful color blends when the area receives one of our infrequent rains. So within each of us, perhaps, there may be that human spark which when properly nourished will have a profound effect on the individual himself as well as on the larger community Ifpwe as teachers have helped to develop this latent power in you as students, we will have accomplished our mis sion. Since re ly, V. J . Garland Superintendent 2 2 s v EAGLE PASS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT C. J. GARLAND, supermmdem EAGLE PAss, TExAs To the students and graduates of 1952: As the school year draws to a close, we look back and realize that it has been very happy and eventful. El Cenizo' portrays many of' these occasions and our memory fills in the ones left out by the yearbook. It is my sincere wish that the graduates have as wonderful a time after graduation as they have had this the senior year. Sincerely rs, S 5. A.
