During the fall and late spring, it functions primarily as a marching band. During the remainder of the school year and during the summer it is a concert band. The band's activities provid-e a wide range of variety. Members presented an ex- change concert at Hampton early in April, formed a dance band, and worked on solos and small instrumental groups for the state contest on April 25, besides presenting three home concerts for the general public. Each summer th-e band personnel prepares 8 sum- mer concerts which are presented in Central Park. A trip to Drake to a band clinic provided plenty of fun and excitement for the mem- bers who went, even through they may have been a bit sleepy-eyed when they boarded the bus early in the morning. Officers of the Senior Band are Lloyd Meyer, president, Colleen Tveit, vice presi- dent 5 Jeannette Thompson, secretary-treasurer, Roselee Gray, reporter. I

Fourth row: Larry DeCamp, Bill Hanson, Christine Moffit, Carmen Walsh, Mary Ann Nelson, Frank Woods, Clayton Will. prep band C Ross Leeper, director The Prep Band is made up of 7-8-9th graders. The main function of the band is to prepare its members for Senior Band. It numbered around 45 m-embers this year with a complete instrumentation. During the 1958-59 school year the band did many interesting and enjoyable things. The first public performance of the band was at the Homecoming parade. It also pre- sented a pre-game ceremony at one of the football games. On February 2, the Prep Band presented its first concert of the season, which was Well attended. Barbara Paulson was soloist. On February 5, the band journeyed to Hum- boldt and played a concert for the Humboldt Junior High. Another concert was played on May 11. The big social event for the Prep Band was their party on February 23. Entertain- ment was provided by Mr. Thomas, Mr. Leeper, and a selection by a German band made up of the band members. Dancing for the remainder of the evening added to the fun. Prep Band officers are Kathy Thompson, presidentg Barbara Mokelbust, vice presi- dent, Carm-en Walsh, secretary, Carolyn Schroeder, publicity chairman.
