First the choruses tell the story of creation - the birth of light, firmament, earth and seas, birds, trees and man. There is the life in the garden of Adam fpantomimed by Victor Lothej and Eve Ueannette Thompsonj, then the tempta- tion. After the Fall there is life outside the garden - the birth of pain, death, and children, Cain CDoug Nieburj and Abel fGary Obrechtj. There is the moving first offering to God and the jealousy of Cain, who then turns on his brother. With Abel dead, Eve finds courage to go on, and also she finds compassion. The story flows between the principals and the choral groups, the latter being the voices of good and evil. The dramatic essence of many stories is caught here and presented with a poetic simplicity which is noteworthy in its phrasing and impact.
