The 1930 MUSKETEER 'WH KLARIZE SMITH TILLMAN THOMPSON LUCILE ALLEN Secretary Treasurer President Vice Presid nt Sophomore blass Hisforzj YO' HO' and a bottle of Gin Fifteen men on one man s chest One was bruised and so were the rest For the type of Pirates of which Eagle Grove Junior College is composed this is a very fitting slogan For two years we Sophomores have been bucking the Main and striving to plant our Scarlet and Gold flag in all the strange ports we could invade Our plunder as a whole has not been so great but we have at least established in our two years of existence a reputation as fighters Also the experience we have gained has been worth its weight in gold Our first year cf existence was a hard one but under the leadership of our chief Norman White we began to slash quite a swath for oui selves Although White was 2.bS9I'1t on many cf our sorties his as istant Madalyne Phillips took charge and we pushed 011 Klarize Smith was chosen to captain our section of the annual and although she had to poke work out of us by use of a marine pike she certainly put out a work that smacked CI the life of our College In our feats of strength we certainly made our opponents aware of the quality of om steel We didnt rank so high in football but certainly showed our wares in basketball competition Some of our fleetest Pirates tried their hand at running away from our Op ponents last spring in track but getting a late start in seasonal training they did not have time to show their real speed We climaxed our first year of battle with a big banquet and dance topped off with the best play that had ever been put on in cur home port Our ranks have been reduced quite considerably this year We dropped down from fifty to forty But this vear it isnt so much numbers as it is quality Some new mem beis were recruited into cur crew and it was up to us to start them cn the track right for as Sophomores we now held the upper hand and it was up to us to slip any of the new Freshmen in the crew the black spot in cas they ox er stepped their rights A new leader was found in the stalwart frame cf our head fighter Tillman Thompson Lucile Allen was assigned as first mate and the old tub was launched for another trip on the high seas The keeping of the ships log was assigned to Harold Allen and also we plunged into a new field by the work of Evelyn Blackman and Klarize Smith on cur paper Tire Cardinal Our first efforts of battle were not so successfful and after two games of football We were compelled to retire from our invasion with a 500 average. But oh what a cameback we made in our next campaign. Our B. B. warriors fnot bawl baby! raided all the main ports in our part of the continent and seldom was it they did not return with plenty of plunder. At the close of their blcody campaign they were rewarded by a genuine Pirates Feas . rthanks to the W. A. AJ No crew can carry on without some frolics and we certainly found ours in our dance? and parties. Our Eyes of Love were certainly proficient and went cver in a big way. Now it wont be long until we will be resigning our posts to our younfer less experienced mates, but the one thing which should remain with us, is the fact that we were all at one time Pirates. In the future we can always lock back upon these good old Pirate days 'rnd experience a tingling sensation of joy at the memories of our esmpades as a red blccded. full fledged. E. G. J. C.
