Three of our four looses were to teams which reached the semifinals in the state play-offs, in- cluding the 16-20 loss to the State Champions. I think as the season prog- ressed the team began to develop a very cohesive unit. Each member showed con- fidence in each other and themselves in their respective roles. There were sev- eral Seniors who contributed much to the team and will be missed. I feel that if we reflect back on the attitude of the team this year as we begin next season, we could end up at the top. 2 Todd Frazee Max Owens Simla 28 Wiley 18 Manzanola 14 Cheraw 30 McClave 1 + Granada 0 Cheyenne Wells 32 Swink 20 Rick Buck Scott Buck Dale LeGrand Devin Kelley 3 Marci Norton, Kristy Hines, Derrick Crow, Kristen Kelley, Todd Frazee, Trudy Howard, Ricky Buck Carrie Mitchell , Max Owens. til tllllltltl Marci Norton, Kristy Hines, Derrick Crow, Kristin Kelley, Todd Frazee, Trudy Howard Ricky Buck, Brian Dunlap. We had size, experience and skilled people at every position. We had a big early lead in just about every game,we dove for loose balls and we always seemed to be outplaying everyone. Yet we ended up at 6-12. Something had to be missing and I believe it was the element of team spirit that left us on the short end of every close contest. I've always believed that if you don't play with emotion then you're just going through the motions and with the exception of districts, we were nothing more than a group of well skilled robots. The district tournament was the highlight of the season and we finally played as we should have all season long. We came within inches of winning it all but fell short to a fine team that eventually went all the way to finish second at the state tournament. I would like to thank those parents who did support me all season long, Diana Mitchell for patiently keeping stats and being manager, Jack Howard for the team meal, the E.H.S. boys for cheerleading and Trenda Howard for her assist ance and tremendous encouragement throughout a dismal season. Special thanks to Trudy for unselfishly making the switch from hitter to setter, thus enabling everone else to look better. Crawfs Comments It was a nail-bitting, heart-stopping finish, but we reached our goal this year:the Girls State Championship, it hard to express the feelings I have for this team; they played with tremendoas heart determination, and poise. There were times during the season when things were tough for us, but each time I think the girls reached down deeper and became mentally tougher. Learning from these experiences, they brought it all together March 10, 198 to win the •State Championship. I owe much to several people who contributed alot to the program. Most of all I want to express my appreciation to the team for giving me a very special experience. I will be reminded of this years team with many memories. 10 Where is the ball ' 1984 MARCH 8, 9, 10, 1984 t  Eads easily advances past Peyton ■mz Trail H-12) v- J V-A° $ Eads’ girls rip Cotopaxi 74-41 ii Coach: Crawford, Brian Dunlap, Steve Phillips, Marvin Watts, Max Owens, Coach: Mestas, Monty Weeks Billy Woelk, Curtis Parker, Mark Reinert, David Crow, Mike Kelley, and Keith Crow. If improvement is used as a measurement,! feel this years team, was a success. With the exception of one team, we played every team closer the second time we met. Much of this success was due to dedication and on aggressive attitude, this years team cons- tantly displayed alot of heart and a will to win even though we had a losing record. David Crow was the only senior on this years team and his contri- butions will be missed next year, especially his cooperative attitude. David was always willing to sacrifice for the good of the team. Most of all I feel this team learned alot about themselves and life. There were situations at times beyond thier control in which they picked up and tried harder in other areas to make up for these problems. I think this helped each individual mature both as a player and as a person. Coach: Gail Crawford  • § BftlRltliH -7 13 C'raon, make my day. WRESTLING COMMENTS The 1983-8 wrestling season was a super one and everyone can be proud. Qualifying six for the• State Tournament was especially gratifying and was the result of a lot of hard work during the season. Thanks to a great bunch. I enjoyed it and hope you did too! 2nd at district 14 Don't worry Clinton Mike Krei i winner ! Dale LeGrand YELL - LEADERS ’83 - '84 LEFT FOOT FIRST? FOOTBALL PEP ASSEMBLY Trudy Howard, Sheila Fuqua, Shelly Hines, Heather Mosher, Landa Eikner, The Eads High School Eagle Mascot was born October 21, 1983 during half-time ceremonies of the Eads Swink football game. The mascot hatching process from the grade AAA egg was viewed by the crowd with great excitement and enthusiasm. Our mascot was involved in gain- ing crowd participation during athletic events during the re- mainder of the school year. Thank you to each individual in the school and community that contributed to make this special attraction available for build- ing interest in the community and school. 17 FOOTBALL I wish to thank the boys for a hard hitting season. Each of the boys shared a lot of improvement in their blocking, tackling and running skills. I feel this year's 8th graders will be able to con- tribute a great deal to the high school team. Thanks again boys and God Bless. Mr. Gifford JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL I am proud to have coached each one of the boys, because they were willing to give 110% from the from the beginning tip-off to the ending buzzer. The boys finished the season with an 8 and 2 record. I thank God for these fine athletes and pray they will continue to be blessed in their athletic careers. Thanks boys for one of the most enjoyable coaching years I have seen. Coach: Gifford 18 Jr« High Girls Volleyball Although we had a rather short volley ball season. We learned the basic skills of volleyball that will benefit each athelete in the years ahead. Their enthusiasm for learning should be commended, as for their effort to be the best they could be. I enjoyed working with such a fine bunch of girls. Coach: Trenda Jj Howard At the beginning of this junior high girls' basketball season, I would have been satisfied with winning 50% of our games. How- ever, I did not take into consideration the competetiveness of this year's junior high basketball team. We lost only one game for the season. It has been a privilege to coach such a group of girls. I will always have an interest in your success and happiness. I hope that I shall have the opportunity to assist and encourage you. With kindest personal regards and a prayer that peace, health, and happiness may attend you, I am: „ Most sincerely yours, Buddy E. TRACK COMMENTS The 198 -85 track season was one which can be remembered as super for both the girls and the boys. Although we didn't have numbers enough to win any meets, we did show we were as good or better than most. A very fitting culmination to the season was placing in three events at the State Track Meet in Aurora. A very special thanks to the seniors who helped in leading the way. Still showing much enthusiasm after that project, the class launched the magazine sales campaign and surpassed their goal of 192 sales by selling a total of 309 magazines and tapes. Next on their agenda was the Haunted House at the STUCO carnival, which was one of the crow's favorite booths . The last money making project was the successful chili-stew supper held just prior to the senior play. Every member of the Freshman class participated in these activities to make them real class efforts. Sponsored by: T.
