Although we did improve, the league was tough and well balanced with Granada, the state runner-up and Wiley getting to the semi -finals, in our league. We tied with three other teams which showed the balance of the league. Injuries played a roll in the season as we had players out with injuries in every gaae. Regardless of the season record, I hope each member of the team received some kind of satisfaction from having partcipated. 7 Coach Crawford Jft. Jr. High Football comments This football season was an enjoy- able one for me as well as a success for the team. The boys played very well and they finished the season with a six and four record. Looking back on this year, I could say I saw much improvement. Our season didn't began very well but as the season went on our team steadily showed more skill and confidence. We placed second in the Cheyenne Wells Tournament and third in the Eads Tournament, losing several games by only one point which taught us about preasure situations and gave us experience for high school We are losing four Eighth Graders but the future looks bright. Terri Wall, Davina Bright, Lora Kirby, and Polly Howe will be returning for the girls. We will have five Sixth Grade boys who show determination and dedication. All of them played on our B team and will be needed for the varsity team next year. Our Eighth Graders, Shannon Lessenden, Cindy Engelhardt, Diana Mitchell and Dawna Mitchell will be missed at Haswell but we hope to see them all play high school ball next year. I would like to thank Donna Williams for all her help this year and Delores Eikenberg for being our sports editor. COACHES COMMENTS I feel this years volleyball team proved to themselves just how important a good mental attitude is when com- peting. Until the girls and I finally proved this to ourselves did we improve our team record and league standings. All of the girls had to work hard to earn and keep a spot on the starting varsity line-up. But each and every girl rightfully earned herself a slot. Our starting line-up changed hands throughout the season which hurt us in the area of experience, but greatly helped our team enthusiasm. We are very sorry to see 5 of our senior teammates leaving us. They were a special benefit to the team, with the captain and co-captain, Julie Oswald and Delisa Eikenberg, very strong lead- ers for us. n This isn't Acrobatics Julie!!! HIGH GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL This year the team was very young, so we concentrated on the fundamentals of volleyball. The season was too short for the girls to learn all of the fundamentals and then apply them. When we finally were able to apply most of them we were on our last week of volleyball. Next year the girls will not have to start with the very basics, so they should be very much ready to play competitive volleyball. Over all, we used this year as a learning experience. 13 Connie Dillow IF I ©Air FLA Sophomore Float HOMECOMING FLOATS Homecoming is the time of year that takes everyones spunk and spirit. Many things are done to make homecoming rememberable, and one thing is... Float Making!!! Much hard work is put into making a float, as you can see. As usual, the wind picked at the floats, and they slowly met their dume's by the end of the day. The placing's of the floats are as follows: 1- Sophomores, which had a napkin-stuffed float; 2-Seniors, which used Newspapers and they used much imagination with them; 3-Juniors, they made a large box which was to wash up the op- ponents; and -Freshman, they are new at this sort of a thing, but as the years go by, they will learn how to short-cut their way around things! At the pep-rally, the Seniors found, that they had the best lungs, with the Soph's at second; the Juniors at third; and Freshman QO fourth. Hall decor- at ions were very, very JH (authentic this year. eLPC, ' ;.:t place was the Jr.s ririr 2nd was the Seniors, 3rd was the Sophomore Class, and +th was the Freshman. - A ERS c. _ —- Senior Float (SENIOR'S) CLASS WITH CLASS!!!!! Although we fell short of that goal we had an outstanding season winning 19 and only losing 1. The girls worked hard and were willing to assume whatever roles needed to win. 1 believe that teamwork and good defense were the keys to our season. I would like to express my appreciation to the team for th- eir cooperatio:. a:.d especially the four seniors, Char la Crow, Delisa Eikenberg, Darla Richardson, and Dawna ..oward for their leadership. Five of the nine starters were freshmen and sophmores and although they gained confidence and improved each week it was not enough to win consistently this season. Our two seniors, Steve Shotton and Derek Gulley, gave us the stability and will be missed next year. Steve pitched, played first base and out field, while Derek anchored the out field, playing center field and due to team injuries played shortstop during a few games. Although the season record was not great, I feel that with the experience the underclassmen received, the season was successful. 72 Coach urawford ii A LI ACMON 73 ©PiriirAINIPIIIMCi Charla Crow Outstanding pepclu : Sarah Seibel OUTSTANDING PLAYER IN Girls asketball-Eikenberg Girls Track-D. SENIORS in the cowboys endsone 100 Don Derek fall WO!: on Wed., Apr. 7 the Eads High Seniors boarded the bus and headed to Dallas, Tex., for our senior trip. After hours of driving we stopped in Boise City. Okla. to eat. After eating we rolled on down the road, occasionally stopping for fuel and rest stops. We arrived at our motel, Dunfey’s, at 10 a.m. Thurs.. Dallas time. We had two hours to unpack and board the bus at 12 noon for our first tour at General Motors Assembly Plant at 1 p.m. in Arlington. After an interesting tour we went on to Fort Worth to visit several museums. We then went to Irving io eat Godfathers Pizza and porked out, then on to Irving Mall for a movie. We returned to Dunfey’s about 11 p.m. and had room check at 12 p.m. by our beloved sponsors. Fri., Apr. 9, we were on the bus at 9 a.m. to go to the World Trade Center. Upon arriving there, we were able to go into the building but, due to 9 mix up ♦here, although we were scheduled for a tour, there were no guides avail- able, so we went to Irving Mall for a couple of hours shopping and then went to Texas Stadium for a tour. Then on to Grand Prairie to the Wax Museum which was very interesting. We returned to our motel at 5 p.m. and had one hour to dress up and be on the bus to go to Trader Vic’s Restaurant for a very tastee meal. We returned to our motel approximately 10:30 and had room check by our spon- sors by 12 p.m. Sat., Apr. 10, rain was falling when we got up but we boarded the bus to go to Six Flags. As the rain continued we went to Six Flags Mall for about an hours shopping while our sponsors rescheduled our day. From there we went to one of our favorite eating places “McDonalds” where we had dinner. After we ate we went to downtown Dallas to tour Old City Park and then on to where J.F. Kennedy was assassin- ated. The J.F. Kennedy Mu- seum is closed so we could only see the building from which the shot was fired and the street that he traveled. We then w M-ed to Reunion Tower worry you! and went up to the observation area where you could see many miles of Dallas. It was quite an impressive sight. We then went to the Spa- ghetti Warehouse for an enjoy- able evening meal. Then back to Grand Prairie where we spent the rest of the evening roller skating. We returned to our motel around 12 p.m. and room check at 1 p.m. Sun., Apr. 11, for those who waned to attend church, went to the First Methodist Church in Dallas which had a beautiful Easter service. Upon our re- turning to the motel we boarded the bus to go to Six Flags where we spent the day. As the park closed at 8 we then went to Mariano’s Mexican Food Restaurant for a very good meal. We returned to the motel around 11 p.m. and room check at 12:30. Mon., Apr. 12, the sponsors bought groceries for a picnic lunch and we were on the bus at 9 ready for a day at the lake of swimming and boating. Enroute to the lake we stopped off to visit South Fork Ranch where the television show Dallas is filmed. Upon arriving at the lake it was windy and rather cool, however we were determined to enjoy the day and sunbathed and ate lunch while a few tried skiing and boating. However, the wind got the best of us and we returned to our motel to change and get something to eat. After eating we were going roller skating but upon arriv- ing at the rink it was closed so returned to our motel to pack our suitcases so we could head home the next morning. Tues., Apr. 13, we had our suitcases out to the bus to be loaded by 7 a.m. and ready to start our trip home at 7:45. At ihis time we were told by our bus driver that we had travel- ed 402 miles in Dallas and surrounding areas during our stay. We arrived home at 11 p.m. 20 tired but happy kids and five exhausted sponsors. We want to thank the sponsors and bus drivers for making this trip possible. And a special thanks to Mrs. Gulley ard Mr. Woods for a well planned and interesting trip which we will never forget. 3y Sarah Seibel 101 PREPARE DREW Steve Shotton Tammy Stowell CO Inst.of Art Grant Brad Owens Serena Dixon Valedictorian Delisa Eikenberg Basketball Scholarship Julie Ann Oswald Congressional Scholarship Ken Kelley Masonic Scholarship Dawna Howard Scholarship Derek Gulley Darla Richardson Deana Griswould Scholarship Scholarship Scholarship 102 Each . ear the Eads i.igh School '.'earhook is started, much hard work is put into it.
