Not pictured Lori Kelley. The 1980 volleyball season was a very productive season, with a record of 12-8. Being the first year that Eads volleyball girls qualified for District.I feel we did extremely well. Tournament results were second place at Vilas, first place at Granada, and second place in Sub-district. Granted that the record doesn't look impressive the team was successful because working together as a team is important and I feel we had achieved this. One outstanding quality was that the 1980 team had alot of determination and would not give up even when the case looked hopeless. I am look- ing forward to next season for we have seven lettermen who have experience and can prove to be successful. Although I will miss the four starting Seniors I wish them the best of luck in their future years. Howard provides great back-up! [P1 a 7Lb LLLL Coachs' Comments I was pleased with the results of our first year in eight man football. I think many were doubtful in relation to the excitement and challenge of eight man football, but by the seasons' end I feel the doubts were erased. We had a winning season with a 5-3 record. We were a small team, giving up weight every game, but this was offset by desire and determination. I have never had a more enjoyable season. The boys were Super to work with, doing everything asked of them to the best of their ability, and having confidence in me, Mr. DeVaughn, and themselves. Most of all, I had fun and I feel the boys did also. My appreciation goes to the boys, Mr. DeVaughn, the managers, and all who had a part in making the 1980 football season so successful. 23 Coach Crawford Defense remains our strong suit. The glory is soon over. The 1980 powder puff game was played by Al's Gals, which were the Seniors and Freshman, and Joe's Jockettes, which were the Juniors and Sophomores. Although they ended in a 0-0 tie, there were many times when a touchdown was evident but penalties always got in the way. The cheerleaders for Al's Gals were as follows: Doug Uhland, Dick Sniff, Todd Frazee, and Tommy Marble. The cheerleaders for Joe's Jockettes were as follows: Steve Shotton, Mark Delley, Scott Pearcey, and Scott Patterson. Doug Uhland was crowned powder puff king, his escort was the homecoming queen, Angie Pearcey. We had two very humorous announcers, Mr. Chet DeVaughn and Mr. Larry Gifford. The Girls Basketball team had a very successful season, closing with an 18-3 record. We have strived for team work and dedication from all our players during the year, thus a winning attitude. Two of our lossess came at the State Level where the competition is at its best. I am proud of the accomplishment made during the season. We placed two girls on the All State Team, Senior Cathy Weirich, and Junior Delisa Eikenberg. This is the second year for Delisa. The team will miss the graduating seniors, but we have a good nucleus of underclass members coming up with experience and a good understanding of the game. A thank you to all who have part- icipated in the program and the contribution you have made. I would like to thank the parents and fans for their support during the season, at the Lamar Community Building and the State Tournament in Denver. The high Plains league proved to be a well rounded league as well as the District of the 80-8l season. We, as a team fought from November to March but were un- able to continue on a winning note as can be seen by the 7-12 record. This, however was due somewhat to a young team as Barry Koch, this years leader, was the only senior. The success of next year's team depends a great deal on how much the returners (which are many) are willing to improve in the summer season. With most of the area losing heavy to graduation it could be a great season with a state tournament in mind. It all depends on work and positive thinking! The team made a fine showing at Lamar and Limon and performed very well at our own meet, League and District. We had a number of records broken during the year in the hurdles, mile run, relays, and 880 yard run. Having nine girls go to state was very satisfying for me as a Coach. I am confident that this, years experience at state will benefit next years team. All in all, I was very proud of the team. The members were very cooperative, understanding, and skilled. We had exceptionally good weather this year which, a- long with winnig, made the season seem short. Since changing the play-off format this year, finishing second didn't allow us to advance to the play-offs. Wiley finished as the League winner and they were the only team to beat us in League play. Along with the four Seniors, the underclassmen showed alot of desire and poise I was especially pleased with the aggressiveness of the team this year. Every player on the team had at least one stolen base. I feel 112 stolen bases in 1 t games is excellent. Most teams we played had more hits than runs scored. We scored more runs than we had hits which showed we were aggressive on the bases. I would like to express my appreciation to scorekeepers and managers for their loyal help throughout the season. A special thanks to the team. They were super to work with this year and I'm sure they don't realize how much a coach appreciates a well disciplined and cooperative team. Thank You!
