The main function for the student council is to provide learning experiences for students. Its principal contribution to learning is the development of good citizenship which is one of the cardinal objectives of schools, both public and non- public. For this reason, the student council is no longer considered to be extra- curricular or an adjunct to the curriculm, but an integral part of it. The varsity team consisted of a large number of seniors and it is always fulfilling to see young men progress and mature from grade 7 through grade 12. Placing 2nd and 3rd in the league tournament and district tournament respectively, proved the total effort of the whole wrestling squad. The sucess of two boys to emerge from the toughest district in the state and place 2nd and 3rd in the state tournament was also equally thrilling and gratifying, he lessons learned by all boys through participation will go a long way in successful living. Al- though wrestling is an individ- ual sport, team spirit and mut- ual support are important fact- ors. The squad members should be commended for having just this kind of spirit. Four of our wrestlers competed at State; they deserve and have recieved the admiration of not only their team mates, but also of those who live in this area. They put out 100%. The desire to win was there. They were supported by their squad members, parents, and friends. This is what it takes to have a good wrestling team. We look forward to next year's season. GOOD LUCK. STATE TRACK was hindered by Door weather and cancell- ations at meets, but still we had record performances.Five new school records were set this year.I felt this made the season a success. The team, which con- sisted of 14 members won 2 trophies through the year. They won the league championship trophy for the third consecutive year, and received the third place district trophy for the third con- secutive year. I wish to congrat- ulate the team for another fine year. Crawford Bruce Stavely Mike Werich Mi tch Beespn Mike Beeson Jerry Werich MAYNARD DAVIS 83 Back Row: Coach Loos, M. Jacobs, M. Beeson, M. I feel that we had the better team in the league, and that all of the players were good potential hitters. Our sea- son wasn't the best, but yet it wasn't a total loss, we just received some bad breaks We let down in some games, and weren't up to par in others. I learned several things this year in coaching, and I think that the boys have learned something to. I believe that if we had the same players at a different time, we could have gone all the way. Next year should be better with some fine ball players coming up from the lower grades. Back row: Mr. Curtis; R Phillips; M. Richardson; J. Phillips; M. Atha; B. Batterton; S. Bowen; M. Weirich.
