1971 Football The Eagles finished their 1971- '72 football season with their second consecutive winning season with a 6-3 record. Their attack was lead by All- Conference players, Tommy LeGrand, Maynard Davis, Ronnie Brown, and on Honorable Mention were, Tom Rich- ards, Rex Weirich, Steve Frazee, and Mike Miller. Coach Scales summed up the whole season by saying, I am especially proud of the football team----they gave me a thrill I'll never forget when we beat Springfield and in the final game I asked for 40 Points and got 54. Whenever Fall comes----I'll always remember the Eagles of '71. Unoffically, it is the longest ever booted i n Colorado prep sports and it was the first in reg- ular competition for May- nard. 197 1 HOMECOMING QUEEN DONNA POPEJOY 1971 QUEEN CANIDATES Top Row L.to R: Donna P., Susan M., Audrey L., PRIN- CESSES, L. to R.: Jr. Kay V., Soph. If you have a sink plugged up, you call a plumber. If your radio doesn't work, you call a repairman. But what do you do to get the attention of a good- looking detective? Have a murder, of course, and if one isn't enough you have another, and perhaps even another! The six interested maidens; Misses Hildegarde, Birdie, Amantha, Lucy, Nettie, and Elizabeth match their old but still perceptive wits with younger Mr. Dennis O'Finn and his partner, Kramer. The ladies' plot is hampered, however, by that young hussie , Jane Rogers, who is a reporter assigned to the case. Our record was 23-2 and we were able to finish second in the State. In the final game we were defeated by 1 point and the game could have gone either way. It was very disappointing to us all, yet we were proud to have been at State and to have placed that highly. Our season was marked by great consistency this year, and the results were quite plain. This year, as in the past, we relied on quickness, control on offense and the breaks, and good defense. We were led as a team by Tery Larrew. Next year we return 8 out of our first 10 and should get some great help off the League Champion Junior Varsity Team. In the future for Eads, I see nothing but good things. Next year the style of ball may change some; but what we lack in heighth, we will make up for in speed and quickness. I, along with the rest of the school and fans, would like to thank Cal Covalt Tery Larrew for their outstanding contributions to the basketball program at Eads High School. The Junior Varsity ended the season with a record of 18 wins and 2 losses. The team was undefeated in league play, and the only two losses were to Walsh (the first game of the season) and Crowley County (which is a AA school). The ream had its ups and downs and had several close first halfs, but they would rally back in the second half for a victory. The team mainly consisted of Freshmen with a few Sophmores and Juniors. With the record they had, it sould show that the Eads Vars shoul b w irrui teaiT aga Tex yeai BASKETBALL B (Back Row) N. Rose, D. Wissel, J. Philipy, Coach Crawford, D. Eikenberg, J. Weirich, P. Wiser Mr. Woods comments are; The wrestling squad this year had better balance than in pre- vious years and was a team everyone could be proud to be a member of. The quality of wrestling in class A schools has developed greatly in the past few years and the Eagle squad has kept pace and I am proud to have been coaching this group of boys. After graduation and you are reminscing, I hope this annual will bring back many proud and fond memories. Best of luck to all! 27 w R E S T L I N G comments: The 1971-72 wrestling season at Eads was full of ups and downs. The high point begun with the win over Crowley County. Next year will hold many surprises and I feel we will see some Eads wrestlers at the state tournment. I was disapointed this year and I feel we received some bad breaks as a result of injures etc.............................. 29 Why did I get the bottom? TRACK 1972 1972 Track ; 1972 Track season has been the most re- ading season in my three years of coach- ing track. We won three trophies, 2nd at the Syracuse Relays, 1st at League, and third at district, during the season, Also, there were five school records that fell this year and one that was tied. The boys worked hard all season vhich resulted in fine individual per- formances as well as top team perform- ances. The results of this year's team has set high standards for next year's team to shoot for. Congradulations 1972 Track Team!!
