I Cjonienis Joreajorcf __ J 89 A book that's Be-Bop bent, no less! It has been said that there is nothing more nostalgic of high school days than the music which was popular. As I pause and contemplate the future, say 20 years, in 1978, the thought comes to my mind that it may be as easy to contact each of you at your far-flung homes across the earth as it is today to reach your home in Eads with a telephone. To reach the point quickly, let's make a date for '78. Call by means of your vision phone or drop in some evening in your family rocket ship and we will compare features in our new solar heated homes. Good luck. Sincerely, D. E. To the 1957-58 Eads High School Students, may this yearbook be a bond which will always connect you with the past. Glass Prophecy by Bill Wimp The time is 12:01 P.M., May 19, 1978. The place is Hollywood, California. My name is Bill Wimp but don't tell anybody. My code name is Saturday Knight. I'm a cop. Number one detective for the BIF. I just came from the courtroom where a case was closed on Harvey Kelley, a professional safe-cracker. He was brought to court to prove that his business was legal. It was, naturally, with Matt Ferman, a famous lawyer, defending him. Another case was tried on Marvin Munson for driving his 300,000 head of steers down the main street of Hollywood to sell at the stockyards. He won the case because he was such a rich man and owned a 3,000 acre ranch in the heart of Hollywood. Well, I decided to fly out to Bads to see what the town looked like after 20 years. I got on an air force jet which happened to be going to the same place. It was flown by Bill Dawson, the famous squadron commander of the Thunderbird Air Acrobat Team. It was a rough trip with his trying to practice his loops, wingovers, and double flips all the way along the trip. When I arrived in Eads I was met by Gene Koch, a commanding general of the Air Force. JBecause I was battered and bruised after the trip, Koch sent me to get patched up by his private nurse, Phyllis Wissel. I began looking around to see what was new in Eads. The first person I met was Barbara Louthan. She told me that she was a model housewife for Mr. Seirer. Later on I saw a semi-trailer loaded with turkeys go down the street. It stopped and Carl Lindholm got out. After talking to him I learned that he owned the largest turkey farm in the world. It was getting around noon so I went Into a cafe to eat. I saw Virgil Lessenden sitting in a booth with several big business men. When I had a chance to talk with him, he told me that he was the owner of sixteen oil fields surrounding Eads. While we were sitting there the former Rebecca King came in. I learned that she was happily married to Gary Verhoeff and had two lovely children. Still later in the day, as I was looking the town over. Marlin Eder came down the street hauling a load of maize. I stopped him, and he told me that he owned all of Eastern Kiowa County. He had put all of it to farm land and had a good crop on every inch. I went out to the race track to watch a hot-rod race. A cloud of dust flew by and stopped down the track a ways. I saw Carol Morton get out of a beat up rattletrap of an unrecognizable 1958 automobile. After talking to her, I learned that she was known as the famous and only female hot-rod daredevil in the history of Eads. Well, I went to Detroit to attend to some business and while I was there I ran into Rita Anderson. I asked her what she was doing now. She told me that she had just graduated from her fifth four year college and was still undecided on the future. That night as I was walking into a store, I saw the former Roberta Barrows coming out. She told me that she was busy traveling from one Marine base to another with Harold. Next day my attention was drawn to a speaker standing on a soapbox talking to a crowd in front of him. It was Loren Patterson. He was urging people to use the trash cans placed along the streets to throw their trash into instead of the streets. After listening to his speech I learned that he was the owner of the Detroit Garbage and Disposal Company. I hadn't gotten two blocks, when I met Harold Hurley. I talked to him and found out that he was the owner of the Motoring Ford Company. He manufactured Ford Thunderducks. Well, I went on down the street and saw a crowd standing around somebody who was trying to get away from them. After he escaped, I recognized who it was. It was Steve Hollis. He told me he was a star wrestler for the Detroit Brawn and Brains team. I finished my business in Detroit and went on to New York. There I met Donna Stucky and Alma Mays. I asked them what they were doing now. Donna was a typing teacher. She was well known because she could type 150 words a minute. Alma was a famous preacher. The next person I saw was Kenneth Kasza. He was surrounded by a mob of beautiful women. He was very busy so I didn't bother him but I recognized his profession. He was a Fuzzy Wuzzy Brush salesman. As 1 was going past the shipyard I saw Leo Nelson. He was the admiral of the Outer Space- mans' Fleet. He defeated the Martians at sea. I went to a football game that afternoon and saw Lee Holter run out onto the field. Listen- ing to the announcer I learned that he was an all-star halfback for the New York Groan and Grunters Team. Three days later I arrived in Dallas, Texas. I had a toothache so I went to a dentist. The Dentist turned out to be Duane Ritchie. He ran a business where your teeth are fixed while you wait. I learned that Don Pfingston operated a business that made Flub, a breakfast cereal that doesn't crack, snap, or pop. It just lays in the bowl in a soggy mess. Later in the day I met Patty Parker. She told me that she was a model for It Figures magazine. While I was talking to her, Jack Doxon came up. I learned that he was a wealthy bachelor. He said that he was an excellent example of what a man can do without a woman. On my way back to Hollywood I stopped at the Black Gravel Proving Hills in New Mexico. Tim Bruvold, a famous physicist, had just discovered a new formula to increase the speed of Satellites to 999,999, 999.9 miles per second. Ed Forrest, a well-known astronomer was there also. He had just discovered a new planet beyond Pluto. He named it Rover. Woops: there goes my police phone. I just got a news flash from Tokyo. Someone made off with Singing Sue's doormat. So long. JZ may me Duane Ritchie being where he should be. Gene Koch going with a freshman girl. Matt Ferman when he isn't in trouble. Bill Wimp driving his car to school. Harold Hurley having enough money to date every Rita Anderson when she had her mind made up. Donna Stucky on a date. Lee Holter doing his own assignments. Loren Patterson collecting trash. Virgil Lessenden when he isn't flirting. Phyllis Wissel driving a Cadillac. Ken Kasza getting in at night before twelve. Harvey Kelly not sleeping in at least one class. Tim Bruvold driving under the speed limit. Carl Lindholm going steady for a month at a time. Marlin Eder taking chemistry. Bill Dawson dating an Eads girl. Leo Nelson getting to school on time . Don Pfingston being true to one girl, night. Jack Dixon being six feet tall. Alma Mays being sent to the office. Ed Forrest driving his own car. Marvin Munson in school every day. Pat Parker going to bed at eight o'clock. Steve Hollis working hard in school. Roberta Barrows with blonde hair. Becky King not getting married. Carol Morton not going to Kansas. Barbara Louthan without Jimmy. 'oH fWH 4 President Vice President Sec. and Treas.
