PUBLISHED BY EADS HIGH SCHOOL EADS, COLORADO VOLUME VI The measure of a life is not its duration, but its donation. Miss Christensen's contributions to our school have been great- ly appreciated by the entire student body. Let us strive tore- member our greater gain in the privilege of knowing her and attending her classes. Her memory lingers in the pages of the many school annuals and papers published by the students of Eads High School in the last five years. ever increasing number of people. Many have felt that opportunities open to those with considerable educational background, were closed to those who have had little formal schooling. Many businesses that are recruiting for clerks and office workers demand at least a high school education before offering employment of any kind. This trend is increasing more and more as the years go by. Because of the trends mentioned above, I wish to commend those who prepare for the demand while they are young. To you, the class of 1954, I offer congratulations for remaining in school until the comple- tion of an important part of your basic training. Further education will surely broaden your opportunities. I hope all of you will advance to better education, better opportunities, and better service. Left to right: J. C. FLOWER Carnation Zlte Qood Old T)ays Don Kelley Doris Adamson Bill Benner Mary Schleining Gene Weiser Doris Hainer Bill Brookfield Gloria Lyon Class Prophecy After having slaved for ten long years in my little attic studio in Paris, France, I thought a trip to the California coast would be just the thing to restore my long lost vim-vigor-and vitality and, to be sure, a visit to my former classmates was long over- due. Upon arriving in New York, I immediately made my way to Saks-Fifth Avenue to visit with the famous stylist, Retha a'la Whaley, who was, at the time, in the midst of one of her world famous creations, the Bikini Formal. My next stop was Chicago where the noted lawyer. Miss Donna Aldrich was capably handling the case of D. L. Patterson vs L. P. Chaffin. It seems L. P. Chaffin's trans-Oceanic bridge, which he boasted would support 3000 cars at one time, failed to do so. The loss was a great one for these cars were all original Shep Convertibles with genuine dog hair seats made from dogs raised in his own kennels. Upon arriving in Eads, Colorado, the city of golden opportunity, my first stop was the M E Grocery Market, owned and operated by the former Mary Schleining and her husband. While I was in the grocery whom should I meet but two prominent farmers of this prosperous community, Mr. Gene Weiser and Mr. Mina Loy Teal. Mr. Teal informed me he was making his millions in raising coes-sargo. Upon inquiring I discovered that Mr. Weiser was doing quite well by raising wheat and storing the surplus in the 1012 foot grain elevator at Galatea owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Russell Lyon. Mrs. Lyon was the former Gloria Pate. When I learned that Bill Brookfield was to play in a professional basketball game at the Eads High School Gymnasium that would start very shortly, I proceeded straight to the school. On the way I was hailed by a quite tall young man who turned out to be none other than Mr. Don Kelley. In the course of conversation I discovered he had be- come an electrical engineer and was doing the wiring for the Xmas lights in Eads that year. As I started through the door, I saw Mr. Keith Simpson, the first grade teacher, selling tickets. He was being assisted by Miss Doris Hainer who was private secretary for the H. C. Wear Ranch. While I was speaking to them a pair of twins came bursting through the door all in a hurry to get good seats. Following close behind were their proud parenti, Mr. and Mrs. Van Brown. Mrs. Brown was the former Ann Hurley. After arranging myself on the plush bleachers, left to the school by the class of 54, I became engaged in an amiable conversation with Mrs. Melvin Richardson. Gloria informed me they had five active little boys in school and four equally active ones at home. After the game, i proceeded straight for the nearest cafe where, who should I discover gossiping over coffee, but three happy mothers whose husbands were baby- sitting for the evening. The former Doris Adamson had her two youngest with her for she thought the other three would be sufficient to keep her husband distracted. Jean and Alta made room so that I might rest my travel-weary self, though I felt rather stifled sitting among so many fur pieces. When we had decided it time to part, they to their happy homes and I to the seclusion of my room, the conversation was renewed by the appearance of Mr. Otis Peck who at that time was shipping two hundred of his registered herefords to the Den- ver sale ring. The happy man with the convoy of cattle trucks was none other than Mr. Bill Benner of Benner Son's Inc. At that time Mr. Benner was running a Cross the Continent trucking service. SPONSOR - MR.
