C. C . JKi ler J j rincipafs Jit ess ape PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE TO THE SENIORS OF 1966 Congratulations to you on the 1966 publication of the Smithsonian which reflects your years at E. E. Smith. From time to time during the past three years, I have enjoyed the privilege of having many talks with you. I hope that I have impressed upon you my for- mula for success which is hard work and good work”. A man who does no more than he is forced to do, or does as little as he can be paid to do, is an idle man. You have sought after and have been provided with the tools of learning and the inspiration to forge a better way of life for yourself and for others. There is no adequate method, it seems, of really measuring the influence of this school on your future. Suffice it to say that our alumni have been in the forefront in leading the continued march for a higher level of intellectual, economic, and spiritual attainment. In practically every phase of life there are Smithites whose lamps were lit here. You face a period of great tension, difficulty, and danger for our country, our freedom, and our civilization. I challenge you to face it with the firm re- solution that our democracy, our religion, and our way of life can never be destroyed except by our neglect and indifference. We, here at Smith, shall continue in your service with unabated vigor in the years to come. The resources of my office are always at your disposal. Yours is a splendid opportunity to live a contributory life. I am confident that you will.
