0112155 'listurg We entertained the Seniors at what was considered the best Junior-Senior Prom in the history of the school. Vonnette Stanley and Patricia Hall represented us well in the typing contest at North Carolina College in Durham, while in Raleigh, Robert Foster Melvin was one of the outstanding actors at the State Drama Festival at Shaw University. Dorothy Garner was an attendant to Miss Homecoming and Mary Young became May Queen. The Junior class officers were-g Mary Young, President, Christine Murchison, Vice President, Doris Boone, Secretary, Ellen Brooks, Assistant Secretary, and Evelyn Brooks, Treas- l11'eI'. Then finally came our Senior year. Assignments became more complicated, but we didn't let that hinder us because we were determined to reach our goal. Our class Won pro- minence in athletics with Milton McDonald, William McMi1lian, Willie Brewington, Aaron Melvin, Wilbert I-Iandon, Oscar Evans, James Edwards, and Richard Maddox's names forever seen in sports headlines, while in Music Christine Murchison' s melodious voice rang clear. Dora McRae became Miss Homecoming. Rodney Williams was President and LeGray Hines was Secretary and Treasurer. Finally came our preparations for our departure. Thus in departing, the class of 1954, will try to live up to its motto: Not Finished: Just Begun. Evelyn Brooks

0112155 mem ,.,- .l I 41 We the seniors of E. E. Smith High Are just about to say goodbye It hurts us deep down in our hearts Knowing that soon from here we must part Although the years have swiftly passed Our memories of you will always last To us, you are the most unforgettable And not a moment here was regrettable. We're thinking of those who follow behind We don't want them to step out of line We hope we left something to lead you on, To use forever after We're gone. For the E. E. Smith High School Our love will ever unfold And our loves will be a symbol For our colors of Blue and Gold. Class Poet Mary Eliza McLaurin t is 4
