Al' 1 Sisters are a precious gift that can't be bought or soldg an understanding sister is worth far more than gold - such a gift is found within the binding sisterhood of Gamma Tau Delta. Starting its twelfth year at Dyke, the sisters look forward to the excitement and challenge of the future with their imperishable enthusiasm. Always proud of their victories but never forlorn over defeat, the Gamma girls attack each endeavor with eagerness and a sincere desire to do their best. Once again Gamma has conquered the title of best vocal group at the Christmas Caroling Contest and their theme 'A Night in the Orient' will grace the ballroom at the Spring Formal this year. Social and service projects round out the remainder ofthe organizations calendar with activities ranging from ice skating and beach parties to a 'Toys for Tots' drive and orphan's parties. Through Gamma Tau Delta, its members fully realize the value of sisterhood. Membership creates awareness in the college and its events and prepares the girls to better adapt to the outside world. The fraternity's motto is Greek Brotherhood. Our main objectives are one, to offer to the incoming students a fraternal organization which would appeal to him not only in activity but in brotherhood. Secondly, it was our wish to present the transfer studentwho had already been initiated into another fraternity at previous schools a second and de- serving chance at Dyke College. The formula for this second principal was to relax having in order to make the fratemity more appealing to any student that had already some thought of the misery of pledging. Since our inception we have accomplished many goals we had set out to attain but we still have many objectives to conquer. Basically history will judge Psi Alpha Lambda and we know that the fraternitywill shine out to set a fine example ofbrotherhood and service to Dyke College. t ' l l ,yu if ll, Fi 412' f. 1 .X .ff '. ff W N frat? The brothers realize that college life is directed toward the preparation for the future. With this philosophy in mind. the fraternity functions in a manner to help its members develop into well-rounded individu- als. These individuals are diffused throughout the student body by the various activities which the Phi Kapps sponsor. Each year the brothers join their sisters of Gamma Tau Delta, and give a Christmas Party for underprivileged children. The party is highlighted by the presentation of gifts to the children by Santa Claus. played by one of the brothers. Other events sponsored by the fraternity are the annual bowling and volleyball tournaments, several open parties. and other social functions. As we begin our second decade at Dyke, we are proud that these goals are still with us and that they are constantly being challenged and met as new situations arise. This year held many interesting and fun-filled activities for Alpha Sigma Chi. Among them were various parties, a hayride, basketball and bowling tournaments, and several fund raising projects including our Stock Market game. The high point of the year was our 10th anniversary dinner, held last fall, celebrating our 10th year at Dyke. Through brotherhood, social activities, and high standards of academic achievement, Alpha Sigma Chi instills in its members the very ideals for which it stands. X 1 it Dyke's Collegiate Program in Retail Merchandising has come a long way since its beginning almost four years ago. Students who are enrolled in the program supplement their daily courses with work experience in the city's leading department stores. Also included in this work-study program is an annual trip to New York City where students attend the National Retail Merchants Association INRMAJ Convention held at the New York Hilton. With the initiator ofthe program, Professor Paller, the retailers tour exhibits, attend lectures, and visit the exciting boutique shops and large department stores that line the city streets. Students were assigned to a store buyer and accompanied him as he visited his particular resources and purchased portions of his spring stock. This allowed the retail students the opportunity to see exactly what is involved in the so-called glamorous job of a buyer. Making the trip this year were: seniors George Zettlemeyer Iirn Orr Betty Trapp freshmen Denise Hammond Sue Snyder Marge Rachuba Steve Bernstein . . . . . . and marketing major Larry Somrack. Although no strict definition of outstanding has been developed, it is generally agreed that an outstanding student is something more than merely an outstanding scholar. He is, to be sure, a competent scholar, but he has also been a participant and a leader in the full range of learning experiences provided by the College, and he has dem- onstrated those traits of character and per- sonality which we seek to develop in our graduates. This ycar's award goes to Miss Betty Trapp. There is too much to be said about this young lady to fit in this small space, but let it be said, that Betty is truly an out- standing individual in every matter in which she has undertaken. We all wish her a lot of luck in the future. easel ' ' - .am w . .-1, V ' .ww .1' ' , Q - H P 3 Je- . .
