P.T.A. Parents and teachers comprise the P.T.A. The P.T.A. is one avenue of communication between the home and the school. The first meeting to plan a parent-teacher association of the Hamilton County School for Retarded Children was held January 18, 1963 at Stowe School and has grown into the present organization. Each year the P.T.A. has an Open House where the parents meet the teachers, administrative staff, and the specialists who work with their children. This past September the P.T.A. had the additional task of pooling all their efforts in order to pass the tax levy. Thanks to the hard work of many interested and dedicated people, this goal was obtained. The programs at the P.T.A. meetings were coordinated by Mrs. Bobbie Fairfax. The entertainment, whether it was provided by the Northwest P.T.A. Mother Singers or our own children, was enjoyed by all. The Tiny Tots Tumbling Team under the instruction of physical education specialists Sue Dauner, Richard Gilby, and Barbara Steele exhibited their talents at one of the meetings. At some meetings the parents had an opportunity to learn of the special activities in which their children participate. For example, one program entitled Discovery Through Science, sponsored by junior and senior students in special education and coordinated by Mrs. Eleanor Thurman of the University of Cincinnati, reported the progress of pupils in a new reading readiness program. The program was further enhanced by Miss Carol Westerfield and her pupils. Under her direction they provided musical entertainment by playing the organ and singing songs. On May 19, the last P.T.A. program for the school year 1974-1975 was held in the Dyer School auditorium. Youngsters in the classes of Ms. Nancy Boeh, Ms. Janet Gorby. and Ms. Nancy Schachter were the highlight of the program when they entertained with their Spring Sing. Everyone enjoyed their performance. This year has been busy, exciting and profitable for the P.T.A.
