THE HAMILTON COUNTY BOARD OF MENTAL RETARDATION Because of the length of the proper name of the Mental Retardation Board, it is usually referred to by the number of the Ohio 5111 that established in each eounty a board of mental retardation - thus, the 169 Board. The 169 Board is responsible for educational programs 1pre-school and school age developmental classes, community classes, work activity centers, and adult activities centers1 for the Trainable Mentally Retarded. The 169 Board may operate programs or may contract with other public or private agencies to provide necessary services. At present the 169 Board is operating community classes, pre- school classes, home training services, adult services, and is contracting for developmental classes with private agencies. Federal, state and county funds for day prograhs for the Trainable Mentally Retarded are channelled primarily through the 169 Board. ' In carrying out its various functions the Board serves over one thousand persons with a staff of approximately one hundred and fifty.
