Frederick A. Breyer, following a mercifully brief illness, died in Jewish Hospital on that date. , All those who worked to pass the mental retardation levy last November probably already know that Mr. Breyer designed the campaign strategy, and served as campaign coordinator, making sure that the many aspects of the levy campaign were executed. I To list all of Mr. Breyer's accomplishments during the many years of his career in public life is impossible, but few persons have been as active or have contributed so much to the lives of their fetlaw men. Those who were fortunate enough to know and work with Mr. B. also know how greatly he will be missed. CAROL JEFFERS Carol Jeffers was a student at Dyer School who will be greatly missed by her fellow students and by teachers alike. She celebrated her sixteenth birthday in December and passed away on February 28, 1975. Although her life was brief, Carol touched many with her gentle ways and sweet nature. We will miss her. :EE'F'TH'SEWSf t I B 1 E 0.! i M I 1 EII3EE .L3ISXEIGEE1 3 0$3.Xa alsah nit 33$! iii gal io-aa3aqom 9K3 no quaS $insn-b 333 Xo Q80 iooS'ucuuea nots3una i9 59513391 uISnsnsm a $33835301'.133315 .k iuknbbaai .I3n33qt Sago! 330m ban $353 so 3933qseE i533s3 n3 bn35'33333533 Rsied uxsux3nqgm . It is a time for Dyer graduates to say thank you teachers for helping me grow and become a worthwhile individual who can be of service to others. It is a time for teachers to thank the graduates who have created joy in their lives. Graduation and prom this fear was Friday. June 6, from 8:00 - 10:00 P.M. It was a time of ecstasy with our young ladies in long formals and the handsome fellows in suits and ties. The theme of graduation and prom was Daisy Chain . Seriousness and laughter Photographers, refreshment, dancing A disc jockey spinning the records... A brief celebration of the step forward into a new world of continued joy and experience. We thank you Miss Priscilla Dalton, Chairwoman of graduation and prom, who with the help of others, created Daisy Chain and happy memories. $1 .bamndlulqz-cg c3 gai: a at mptq baa aoxssubaza It 117 .boeiatubn oaui Hannah 1H0 a:axdsiea o: ganlnzsa s at ' I :0! a:adaioa 'ueg inld3 gun as assaubaxe laud :01 .ml: 5 ana adv Ianblvtbai aikdudiwaw s 5mnasd baa woxg an pakqlod I o: uzadaaoslxoi sat: a al.31' .atadio o: oolvxsa 10 ed .aavti 21.13 at not bodies: even odw aedsubaup ad: xnsd: Ina! .3 Iaub .unbixl tau 139i aids mozq baa notssubaxa mam m.tw'gmum 1c m: 31m: :1 .243 com: - 09:3 .baswlatui n1.nwoiloi .mnnbuud add baa alamuoi gnu! ni-aolbnl .'nlsd3 yiiaa' nan aorq ban noiignbntp 10 amen: adT .3513 -u I Ismipasi 5n5 aasnauolxsa pnkoaah .snamdaazis: .arsdqazgojodq ...abmoaeu 3d: gainniqa ysuoot oath A 10 hlxau an a Oink bunwzoi gaze 5d: 30 Holinzdslea ielzd A .snaelzsqxs has got banalinoo 30 nnmawzlsdo .naiiha alliaaIIE aaLM so! 155d: 9W 5835010 .awadio 10 qia add diiw odw 1moxq ban notanubnzp .aalxomem yqqsd baa nisdb yaisa' FUN TIMES OF 1975 SEPTEMBER 4. was the beginning of the school year for our excited boys and girls! ON OCTOBER 15. Sue Cheney and Kathy Schwein scented the school with a bake sale. The funds from the sale were donated to the tax levy committee. OCTOBER 18. was an in-service training day for teachers. On that day, teachers enjoyed a delicious luncheon, lovely music, and the inspiration and profundity of noted educational leaders. NOVEMBER 26. will be long remembered as the day of the annual RINK'S DINNER PARTY. Santa greeted the buses with a HO-HO .and Merry Christmas . Once settled inside the Evendale Community Center we were served a delicious Thanksgiving dinner! Afterward Mr. Willie Thall, Master of Ceremonies. introduced all the guests and the show began. First to be introduced, was Mr. Joe Nuxhall who delighted the children with his talk of baseball. Next came the clowns who en- thralled the children with squeals and laughter. Then came the chimps from the Cincinnati Zoo, who rode bikes, scooters and balanced them- selves on a huge ball, to the amazement of the children. Finally, Santa came back with his bag of gifts for good children and teachers alike. Thanks to the wonderful people of RINK'S, our holiday had an additional special meaning! DECEMBER 12, Dyer School provided the area superintendents of schools with a luncheon. after which they visited the various classrooms to say hello to children and teachers. ' DECEMBER 16, Sparky and the firemen visited our school and spoke about safety at home during the holidays. The firemen showed their red fire helmets. raincoats. and big rubber boots to the children. Parents and teachers comprise the P.T.A. The P.T.A. is one avenue of communication between the home and the school. The first meeting to plan a parent-teacher association of the Hamilton County School for Retarded Children was held January 18, 1963 at Stowe School and has grown into the present organization. Each year the P.T.A. has an Open House where the parents meet the teachers, administrative staff, and the specialists who work with their children. This past September the P.T.A. had the additional task of pooling all their efforts in order to pass the tax levy. Thanks to the hard work of many interested and dedicated people, this goal was obtained. The programs at the P.T.A. meetings were coordinated by Mrs. Bobbie Fairfax. The entertainment, whether it was provided by the Northwest P.T.A. Mother Singers or our own children, was enjoyed by all. The Tiny Tots Tumbling Team under the instruction of physical education specialists Sue Dauner, Richard Gilby, and Barbara Steele exhibited their talents at one of the meetings. At some meetings the parents had an opportunity to learn of the special activities in which their children participate. For example, one program entitled Discovery Through Science, sponsored by junior and senior students in special education and coordinated by Mrs. Eleanor Thurman of the University of Cincinnati, reported the progress of pupils in a new reading readiness program. The program was further enhanced by Miss Carol Westerfield and her pupils. Under her direction they provided musical entertainment by playing the organ and singing songs. On May 19, the last P.T.A. program for the school year 1974-1975 was held in the Dyer School auditorium. Youngsters in the classes of Ms. Nancy Boeh, Ms. Janet Gorby. and Ms. Nancy Schachter were the highlight of the program when they entertained with their Spring Sing. Everyone enjoyed their performance. This year has been busy, exciting and profitable for the P.T.A. Isv5pq I l1 .I.T.! Highlights of the season included 2 wins each over chief rivals, Fair Acres Center and Northview. One of the victories over Northview was in a regional play-off and earned the team a berth in the state tournament in Youngstown, Ohio. The trip was enjoyable: but Dyer did lose in the first round to the eventual state champions, Fairhaven School. Scoring honors were divided between Vincent Bolling with a 12.8 average lhigh games of 26 and 22 pointsl and Norris Seldon with a 12.5 average thigh games of 21 and 35 points - a new school record.y Norris is one of five graduating seniors including Ron Moore, Stan Kitts. Marco Huber and Tony Oliphent. All of these players have contributed greatly over the last three years and will be greatly missed next year. t Other team members included Terry Brown, Tony Alexander, Alphonso Wellhorn, Ken Johnson, Benny Anthony, Ray Chambers! Rusty Kerr and Bruce Meyers. All except the latter two will be back next year and hopefully, will match the fine effort put forth by our seniors. They bring information about Hamilton County services that are available, help to alleviate that isolated, helpless feeling, and bring encouragemeht and a welcome break in the day for mothers who cannot yet send their child off to school. Some of the activities Home Trainers teach are the same ones our Dyer School students work on too! They teach self- help skills like: washing face and hands, zipping and buttoning. combing hair and brushing teeth, mannerly eating, and putting toys away. It seems that by the time we really get to know each other, the school year is over. In addition to the very busy homeeroutined jobs, all members have in one way or another participated in most of the schoolls extra curricular programs, and each has earned outstanding recognition in his field of accomplishments. Some were taking guitar lessons. others were developing their athletic abilities for the Olympics, others were busy with their basketball practices. Cheerleading obligations. you name it, and if it meant additional recognition for DYER SCHOOL, the Homemaking Family was represented. Using the Girl Scout Junior Handbook as a guide, the girls work for Badge Awards. The scouts receive the guidance and personal help of Ms. Leslie Lynk, Co-director of Human Development Services at Great Rivers Council of the Girl Scouts of America. Badges earned by the various troops include Craft, Personal Hygiene. Qgtdoor Life and Dancing. The GlrI Scouts also conduct flag ceremonies at Dyer School P.T.A. meetings. Two of the more outstanding projects of the girls will be considered for the Community Service Award. Troop t985 at Dyer School presented the play SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, for their teachers and schoolmates. Troop $1288 joined a sister Junior troop from the Queen City Neighborhood to go Christmas Caroling at Children's Hospital. The Dyer School Girl Scout Troop t985 is unique in that it meets during school hours. Mr. George Greisemer, principal, has allowed time and space for the girls to each lunch together and to attend their meetings. The leaders of this troop wish to thank him and the many others who help them - Mrs. Bobbie Fairfax, Mrs. Myrtice Falkenstein, Mrs. Jane Natilson, the teachers of the Scouts and the Dyer School secretaries. There 119 also a class of tiny tots who do exercises every day. We're not sure who the exercises benefit more; the students or the teachers. Maybe Mrs. Boeh can tell us! But it's not all fun cmd games. . . Mrs. Schaoter had a visit from the Police. He was retuming a match which had been stolen. When he returned and saw the teacher jmping around and dancing for joy, he remarked, do you need a degree to teach here?.'.' The first floor- doeen't have all the fun, though. . Mrs. Cubbison tells us her proudest moment this year we the day she metered the gym schedule! And our poet laureate from the third floor submitted this gem about her school year: h Thcmke alive, I survived! Advance those who are able; Learn more at the table, Teach them all to get along,- Bmlld on sueeees Forget the wrong - In conclusion, perhaps the one poem that Wees our total delight during the school year was the my students and teachers alike spent the entire winter Watching the Sky . h Happily I watched the sky. TEACHER'S PETS? MRS. JUDY JORDAN, R.N. According to one of our students, Mrs. Judy Jordan, R.N., our school nurse, is the Lady Snowman. fShe wears a white uniform.J The Lady Snowman is a most important member of our staff. She is responsible for the health care of all the students enrolled in the Hamilton County Board of Mental Retardation Community Class Program. Mrs. Jordan is available during the school hours to check the children and handle any emergency that may occur. She has reviewed all health records to insure that the pupils have had recent physical examinations and required immunizations. Along with her other duties she has initiated the Dyer School Pounds Away Program. This has been an aid to some of the overweight pupils and as a result many have slimmed down. It has been a happy experienee for all. Mrs. Jordan is a friend, comforter, and blues chaser to all the children. We are proud to have her on the school staff. BLESSED 133 the parent who engages not in the comparison of his child with others; for precious unto each 118 the rhythm of his own growth. BLESSED andewiae are those parents who understand the goodness of time; for they nuke it not a word that kills growth but a shield to protect. BLESSED and mature are they who without anger can say 0; for comforting to the child 733 the security of ftm decisions. BLESSED is the gift of consistency; for it 713 heart's-ease in childhood. BLESSED are they who accept the aukmrdneee of growth; for they are we of the constant perilous choice between marred fmishtngs and dmged personalities. BLESSED are the teachable; for kmwledge brings understand- ing, and understanding brings love. BLESSED are the men and women who, if: the midst of the Wipromiaing mundane, give love; for they bestow the greatest of all gifts to each other, to their children, and - in' an ever-wtdentng circle - to their fellow men. . awsmm miiw mmmwa mwmm mm mm EG.- WSAG 81: Km '19 tat 3M 5333:: Sun ism m qut: gaulkumm$mq sat gamma sh! k0 Maw 914$ air W emu: what; 101 am:: 5333 $5159 31m diam mu .mximl hm! sum um.
