NEW EMPHASIS ON SCIENCE has resulted in larger enrollment in the science department and greater variation in courses offered. Dyer Central High School is keeping pace with the times in preparing graduates to take their places in the scientific world of today. World Affairs Emphasize . WoUYf 1-4? STUDYING STRUCTURE AND CHARACTERISTICS of animals is a favorite part of the biology course. During the year students bring in many specimens including ham- sters, salamanders, frogs, fish, hawks, and bats. Mr. Under- wood is demonstrating the wing spread of the bat as he talks about its nocturnal activities. Classes Teach Homemaking . . . z l 5 PREPARING FOOD BUDGETS, planning and cooking meals, and learn- ing the etiquette of serving are included in the freshman home economics course. Georgia Brietzke and Jo Ann Sizemore put the finishing touches on a layer Cake while Janet Grafton and Carole Horner admire their cup- cakes. - 30 - IN THE KITCHEN OF HIS APARTMENT, Principal Jones is both teacher and pupil in his exclusive home economics course. IN THE FIRST YEAR SEWING CLASS, Carol Schutz and Rose Stage finish their aprons while Judy Peck starts her skirt. Dur- ing the first semester, students must complete a blouse, an apron, a skirt, and something of their own choosing.
