This book is a collection of past accomplishments . . . the hay rides when we were only sophomores . . . the woniderful week-end at the shore that same year . . , the hard work and bitter tears of our junior year . . . theoretically the most difficult from a scholastic standpoint . . . finally . . . the supreme senior status ...i oh, what a wonderful life! . . . the staircase . . . cafeteria homeroom . . . front row center in the assemblies . . . it was all ours. Fondly remembered will be the spring days . . . walking on a green, sun-bathed campus . . . wading in the brook . . . racing out back A A at Dwi wht Morrow happy. to find a ride downtown . . . all these made our three years g When our staff decided on a 'theme we chose Englewood, the town that cradles Dwight Morrow in its heart ...i our parents . . . and the faculty . . . not to one individual . . . but to all of them . . . we dedicated our book . . . an attempt to liquidate a great debt. We leave now . . . to further schooling . . . to jo nation . . . so that year books will continue to be published in every American school . . . it is our hope that wherever we are . . . whatever we do . . . the Class of '51 will remain united in mem'ries . . . through our Engle Log. bs . . . to defend our i 'ku 'ff gy Xi' , V. ,A . , X -xl X Q X 1. . x 'gi J , s V .1 . To raise addi- tional money besides class dues, it organized the selling of Christmas cards and presented the Senior Class Play, The Night of January 16th, under the successful direction of Miss Benita Beck of the Dwight Morrow faculty. The Senior Class also did its part for Fun Nite by checking wraps. During the year the Class made a donation of one hundred dollars to the Student Loan Fund and another donation to the public address system. Even in the State Tournament the team won all its games comfortably, the semi-finals by 25 points and the finals by 23. 92 Englewood's sweep was ia tribute to the skill of Coach Tom Morgan, who built his winning combination with only one man over six feet tall, and that man-an inexperienced sophomore. Robby was the most honored athlete of the year at D.M.H.S., winning first births on the all N.N.j.I.L. and All-County teams, as well as being named the most valuable player in the tournament. Other members of the starting five, and the only players Morgan used until the game was out of reach of the opposition, were Harold Turner at the other guard post, who played a floor game and chipped in with timely sets, forward, Alexander Gully, Johnson, who drove the enemy crazy with his driving lay-ups, Henry Peguese, the other forward, who threw in 10 points a game with a set up from the side, and added some drives for good measure, and Ralph LePinnet, the club's tall man at 6' 3,' who did his best work off the backboards. HAROLD TURNER XM -sf Z,f5fN ly! !.CZ33 HENRY PEGUESE GULLY JOHNSON HENRY ROBINSON RALPH LE PINNET 155 OCCQF' The 1950-51 edition of Dwight Morrow High Schools soccer team ended the season with a 111 won - 2 lost record and a second place in the N.N.j.I.L. Both defeats came at the hands of league rival, Hackensack, which found Englewood losing out to Hackensack in the championship battle as they did last year. Captained by Al Schroeder and Bob MUllHH, this year's soccer squad kept up the fine record and sportsmanship for which Dwight Morrow High School is noted. Our- standing seniors on the team such as Steve Hastings, Charlie Spilewski, Al Schroeder, Bud Ingoldsby, Charlie McGill, Rudy Bartke, Bob Mullan and Pierce Cotter leave the squad with the hope that next year's team will get that first place and possibly a State playoff berth. The varsity included pitchers, Jim QSamj Agnew, who early in the seaSon had a 21 inning scoreless string going, and Harold Turner, with an occasional win tossed in by Tom Jacobsen. john Pratico was the first string catcher, while Evan Lewis at first, Richie Wendel at second, Lennie Hassler at short and Bob Leclercq at third composed the infield, the outfielders were Bud Ingoldsby, Clint Humble, Harold Turner, when he wasn't pitching, and Nick Bentley. Flash I I ! - - - Due to a delay at the print shop the Engle Log staff is able to give you this late bulletin - Our baseball team captured the league championship - well clone boys and coaches - congratulations! I t Zac Coach Burt Smith's spring track season opened with great expectations. Led by captain and star half-miler Marty Gilvar, the Maroon had the makings of a champion- ship team, Seniors Gilvar, Hastings, johnson, Brownlow, Schroeder, Jamieson and Mason provided the experience along with juniors Lenrow, Abernathy, jones, Erber, Kelly, Hoeger, Boyan and sophomores Nagel, Burke, Ruefer, Gude, Irre and Stich. The team showed promise not only for this year but also for the future. To date, in N.N.j.1.L. competition the team has competed in one meet, winning very handily, If this is a taste of the future, there should be a few more gold cups to add to the Dwight Morrow High School collection. P065 Conn ff? 'WE If ennid 53054801 31.06 Cm The need of an organization to sponsor and stimulate interest in track and cross country activities resulted, last year, in the formation of the Spiked Shoe Club. The club is open to all boys who have received letters in cross country or track. The main activity this year was the sponsoring of the annual Interclass Track Meet on April thirteenth. A successful year has been due to the hearty cooperation of the members with their enthusiastic advisers, Coach Smith and Mr. Breur. The professional man finds his highest rewards in his sense of mastery of his subject, in the absorbing interest of the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, and in the contributions which, by reason of his attainments, he can make to the promotion of the general welfare. The truly successful business man, we believe, is he who derives satisfaction from the contribution of his business to the public interest as well as for monetary profits, and who conducts his relationships with his customers on the principle that in the long run his gain can only be in proportion to the service he renders them. It is on this principle that LION CLEANERS OF ENGLEWOOD is established and because of this, public acceptance and response to our endeavors have been most gratifying and symbolic of its appreciation.
