As the world changes, people change and every new day becomes a challenge. Each day now exists only in our minds as memories. Through our years at D.H .S. , the class of '7l has certainly made every day different. We would like to thank our advisers, teachers, parents, and friends who brought our class together. We owe great thanks to every one of them for helping us to accomplish Homecoming, the Prom, parties, the Yearbook, and all other activities. For all the things accomplished, we owe the deepest appreciation to one man--as we were a challenge to him. Therefore, the Class of l97l would like to dedicate our yearbook to you, Mr. Charles Lagerstedt-- with thanks forthe warm help, guidance, and humor you have given us. MR. The dining and dancing were fit for the emperor. The grand march highlighted the evening, when the elegantly dressed couples paraded around the dance floor accompanied by the fantastic sound of Utopia. The Class of l97l watched as Cathe LaGreca was crowned Queen, her escort, David Morse, appropriately selected King. The Queen's Court shone brightly, as those chosen were Cilla Crocker, escorted by Nick Burdick, and Christine Grundy, escorted by Terry Byrne. Hard work and determination made possible the final breath-taking results. Organization and planning were executed by Kathie Gibbs and Darlene Mosher, while the designing ofthe queen's throne and other decorations were done by John Goddard. Special thanks go to Leanne Mitsock for providing a place for workshops and meetings. The evening of May 8, T970 has made a mark in the memories of those students and faculty mem bers who attended the Junior Prom at Ridder's Country Club. Such is Sousse, the city from which l come. Tunisia, my country, is in northeast Africa. It has about l,O0O miles of beaches on the Mediterranean. Although Tunisia is not big, it has a big diversity of landscapes, and being an old country it has also a rich culture. Our religion is Islam. I have been for twelve years in schools. The first six were spent at a primary school and the other six in a high school. Last year I had to take an exam before coming over to the U. S. This exam allows me to go to the university. This exam is called baccalaureat and my specialization was philosophy. I hope I can become one day an interpreter or a psychologist. This year spent in the U.S. is a great personal experience. Coming from another culture we have to get rid of it to a certain extent to be able to live in the new one. The beautiful side of it is that you become purely a human being without any cultural cover which allows you to know much more of yourself and to understand people from different cultures. sjfcl if Af.. f4a.1.ea..A. The peak of the night came with the crowning of Clara Bishop as Homecoming Queen. The following day brought rain and the postpone- ment of the annual Homecoming Parade. Yet, over- flowing with spirit, the Senior class organized its own parade--led by Shawn Dahlen and the float, and featur- ing Marlc Mc Evoy as the DHS Dragon. The football game was disappointing. Although the Dragons put a lot of effort into it, they were defeated by West Bridge- water. Thanksgiving brought victory and the long Qwcifed parade. The Junior class won first prize for their con- tribution ofthe best float to the Homecoming Parade. This year's Homecoming festivities had more of the all- important element needed--S PIR IT . With the strong determination ofthe representatives and the leadership of President Stephen Canty, the Council worked hard toward their goals. Student government was the single greatest concern. The student-Faculty relationships dominated many ofthe Council's ideas. New ideas pro- moted bythe Student Council were the abolishing of study halls, separat- irg the students sincerely interested in studying and those who wished to have an activity period, the beneficial presence oi vending machines, and the establishment of a smoking area. Entertainment was a separate concern of the Council. A great interest in representative government allowed the Student Council to end the year by narrowing the gap between students and school lite. The play concerned a football star fPaul Gazini, an old boyfriend of Ellen's fLuann Purinj, who returns to town to see the big football game. Ellen's husband Tommy fRiclc Rawsoni, is a pro- fessor at the college. Action and humor occur- ed when the professor got involved with the Board of Trustees over the reading of a certain letter in class. His home life became disrupted with the appearance of his wife's beau. To cure the existing circumstances, itfook G large dose of good acting on the part of the supporting cast: Steve Zollin, Christine Grundy, Leanne Mitsock, Ken Drinan, Julie Manner, Patti Grealy, Bill Sawyer, and Bob Haskell. N. The i970 Tournament of Plays, held October 23 and 24, was marked by much enthu- siasm among the three lower classes. The re- sponse of the participants and the audience was bigger and better than ever before. The Freshman class entry was Four Little Words, a comedy about a Broadway prodEr who wr searching for a plain, nondescript girl to play a one line part in his new picture. Instead he was besieged by several young starlets trying to outdo each other in original interpretations of the part. Susan Mathewson was recognized as outstanding actress. Mr. Woodbury did an excellent iob as director. The Sophomores won the tournament with Where Have All the Scholars Gone, Gone to Punch Cards Everywhere, unique because the cast wrote this play themselves. They were aided by Mrs. Upham, who also directed it. A comedy with a message, the plot dealt with the problems facing four young people when they tried to get a iob with a big business firm, and were turned over to a computer which would choose the best applicant. Outstanding Actor Awards were given to John Aldrich and SteveLSbraccia. The Great Choice , directed by Mrs. Wilson, wc?-presented by the Junior class. Although it did not win the tournament, this play was with- out a doubt one of the best dramas that DHS has ever seen. Based on the moral question of political dissent, the story left a lingering im- pact on everyone in the audience. John Pierce starred, and earned an Outstanding Actor Award, but the entire cast gave excellent performances which made the piece a success. This year's Tournament of Plays proved that dramatics is becoming an increasingly popular interest at DHS. We should all expect to see many more fine productions in the future. 'Vx ln. We all have had great fun putting together this Partridge. We hope the whole senior class will be iust as proud of the yearbook as the Partridge Staff is. This yearbook could not have been completed without the full cooperation of all editors and staff members. John Goddard and his staff did a tremendous iob on lay-out, John Rayner and his crew ran around getting advertisements and subscriptions, Kathy Gibbs and her group did a fine iob with photography, Barry King and his writers spent hours getting material. All other members ofthe staff I would like to thank -they did a fine iob. We all owe the deepest thanks to Miss Frame, our adviser. She has given a lot of her time to us and we are very grateful.
