Certainly we are not the same students who entered DHS six years ago. Through the years many teachers, advisors, friends, and parents, have worked with our class, and have seen us change. But, more recently DHS has changed with the arrival of a person who has worked for and with the students, especially the seniors. Senior passes, senior privileges, and the Student Activity Room would still only be dreams, had he not worked to make them a reality. For these, as well as his help both as our principal and our friend, we, the Class of l97O, dedicate our yearbook to MR. JOHN W. After searching far and wide, at last the students could be found, transformed into elegantly dressed couples, entering a beautiful castle, set up on a hill and overlooking the ocean: One would expect to see King Arthur among the fair ladies and men as they danced their way through the castle. Highlights of the evening were the crowning of Holly Alves as the queen, with Lucy Kent and Nancy Schaffer as her court, and the announcement of James Small as the new Student Council President. A delic- ious dinner was served afterwards, with more dancing to top it all off, Many old traditions were broken in the planning of the prom, with dinner and dancing both at the May- flower Inn. Modern music completed the scene. The Class of '70 is proud to have presented such a memor- able evening. -Z fi' F-.dag Q Senior Class Ojfcers Seated: Thomas LeGore President! JL S17 ' 'Z 75' ' ,.-f If rj ' ,gg -. . - -,M American Fie cz' Service l've spent ten years in boarding schools with a government scholarship in Adana Mersin and Diyarbakir respectively. My school is quite new, specializing in more English courses. Diyarbakir, the I4th largest city, is located in the South-East and was built about 2000 BC. Turkey is situated in just about the same altitude as Massachusetts, and there is no difference in the climate. Because of its situation in the Middle East it has been one of the important lands since the beginning of history in politics, as it still is now. ' I like travelling, taking pictures and music. I love meeting people from different parts of the world and from different ways of life. I am interested in social studies, especially philosophy and politics. I like to joke and to have good times with my friends. I will miss you at the end of this year, maybe forever. But there is one thing that I will never miss, love: the love of people and of humanity. I really like Duxbury and New England, believe mel I came from Brittainy, a peninsula which goes far out into the Atlantic Ocean. If the sea was not curved, you would be able to see Brest, the town where l live, from Duxbury Beach. Our two countries are similar in the weather, in the big beaches, and the rocky points. The people are very different in my country. They are very cold. They often like to shut themselves into an intimate group of two or three people. When the people walk in the towns and country, they often forget to look up at the sky and the sun. They know only the grey of the wet streets. I Here I have found the people open, ioyful, and always smiling at each other. They always like to know better their neighbors, their country, and their world. lf you have lived under a grey, rainy and sad sky in Brittainy, you can appreciate I more the sun. And then Britainy, along with North America, is the most beautiful country in the world. PQ O ln late June, I arrived in Durban, South Africa after a twenty-five hour flight from New York. There I met my family of three boys and two girls. My host father is a wine merchant for a Cape wine company. During the first few weeks I went on a safari to Zululand. For six weeks I atten- ded Newforest School for Boys where I took seven subiects. Surfing is an enthusias- tic sport there and before I left Durban, we had a seventeen foot surf. After leaving Durban late in August, I went to Johannesburg for five days. While there I went to a gold mine and to a tribal dance. From there I toured Salis- bury, Rhodesia, Luanda, Angola, and Lisbon, Portugal. It was a very rewarding summer. Jgmfx puEEfYy , L 0.1 i S. ,. J .Ji Partridge Smjjf Jgfil gif. Due to rain the pep rally and bonfire had to be cancelled on Friday night. Howeverleqrly Saturday morning the parade was organized. This year's float winner was the iunior class with Spirit Bucket . The cheerleaders again this year had the best car. During half-time of the football game Senior Danielle Picard was crowned Home- coming Queen . Her senior court consisted of Ellen Grady and Laura Keith. The class representatives were Doreen Andre, fresh- man, Patricia McEvoy, sophomore, and Catherine LaGreca, iunior. The DHS soccer team upheld their tradition again this year, dominating the South Shore League with an un- defeated ll-O record and only one goal scored against them. This was due to o team effort. There were such standouts as Mark McEvoy, who made a new school record of 27 goals in a regular season, and Paul McGarigal, who only let in ten goals throughout the entire season. Eastern Moss Finals The team defeated Quincy 3-2 in over time to to enter the Eastern Mass Tournament. Seeded ffl in Eastern Massachusetts, the team drew a bye in the first round. In the Quarter-Finals they beat Dennis- Yarmouth 2-l . After beating Lexington in the Semi- Finals 2-l, the team went on to play New Bedford in the Finals. This team was the only Duxbury team to go undefeated through to the finals of the Eastern Mass Tournament. The winner this year was Chalkdust presented by the freshman class and directed by Mr. Richard Miller. This musical version of school life involved a flunking star football player who needed a good grade on a test to play in the weekend's game. Exceptional performances were put on by Eleanor Wickham, a PTA and School Committee president, and by Jud Mitsock, the principal at Center High School. The sophomore play The Silver-Backed Hairbrush involved a Sherlock Holmes type mystery with an ironic twist at the end. Although all acting was good, David Larson's portrayal of Dobson was very enioyable. Food for Father involved an evening at the Baxter's hom retaW comes to cook dinner. The out- standing performance was by William Whitehouse. A skit by Laura Keith and Lee Milligan topped off the evening for everyone. All in all this year's Tournament of Plays was a great success. Y ' 4. 1 ' N w 'l I w 1 V Life is made up ofa group of very unreal realities- Ones we cannot touch, but yet exist, and in their distances frustrate and confuse us, leaving us spinning into a limbo of correctness: how can we grab and hold a reality, we cannot even define them. Some say, lf you can touch it, it is real, it exists, it is there. But --you first grasp the reality, say a book for simplicity, at the moment you are doing it, that action had become part of the past-- it is not happening ever again, yet, you can remember that first grasp, it is to you a reality- you iust did it, but it has become part of Life-- And it is not actually occurring in the present-- yet present, or Life, is used in defining the existence of reality. Obviously a fraud-- Life does not ever exist in the pre- sent form-- or even in the future-- for the future is only what we think it is, having done that, think becomes thought , thought is past action. Future exists in past actions, the present is defined by past actions, therefore Life is the realities that are past actions. Bill Neumann Y ,. 1 ,n ls?
