The Class of T969 is unique and special, and after June we cease to exist as a unit. We'll become members of a larger community, and the closed society of our high school will seem incredibly small, as it does to many of us already. Here in the Partridge, we look at the past. Time stands still for a minute while we look at the way we were. We ate and slept and played and some of us studied. Look at us here. See how we were-for we'll never be the same again, just as we'll never be seven- teen again. We are grateful to the people who have molded us into shape for Our college consumers. We are especially grateful to those wise leaders who helped us realize that no matter how diverse a group we were, we could still be one unit. Look at us here, see how we were. The Partridge documents history, and history only happens once. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yester- day. The Prophet , mar, n 6 I, ,X X A , a l. vii? W , 31 4. Follow it past the great wide rainbow until you reach the coolness of the thick pine forest. You didn't miss the tin man, did you? Just beside him was the straw-stuffed scarecrow. On the path winds, past a brilliant field of color-splashed poppies until far in the distance looms the fabulous Emerald City. Follow the path, you'll reach it. Does this sound like a fantasy world from a story- book? A fantasy it was, set in the midst of Duxbury High School . The class of 1969 transformed the imaginative tale of yellow brick roads, rainbows, and Munchkins from sheer fiction into reality. Working with the famous Wizard of Oz as its theme, the ambitious juniors labored for months over carefully shaped poppies and a regal throne for the queen. Co-chairmen Wendy Starkweather and Deborah Dickow set the class scurrying around the gymnasium during the final hours before the long-awaited evening. As the night approached, elegantly dressed couples slowly entered and began their trek down the famed yellow brick path, past the chaperones and on to the band. Providing the music for the event were the Boston Mass, who played from their basket balloon before it departed. The highlight of the evening came when Can- dace Jenkins was crowned as queen, with Judith Canty and Deborah Davis as her court. The evening ended with a delicious dinner at Fiddler's Green, the topping to a memorable evening. , ' lsllf B Qgiwigfesvgxatj 23292389-as -at My bi fxffi fn' X f. Held on November 8th and 9th, it was an unprecedented dis- play of school spirit in which every- one participated. The football team did itspart by trouncing a strong West Bridge- water team l2 to 8. Of course most of the credit goes to the Stud- int Council, which organized the whole affair. On Friday night there was the pep rally at which the team was introduced, and speeches were given by Head Football Coach Mr. Charles Anderson and Principal Mr. John Hill in the light of flickering torches. Sandy Allen was crowned Homecoming Queen, and lit the bonfire in which the Westies were burned in effigy. Next morning a gigantic par- ade, in which all the classes, clubs, and organizations particip- ated, wound down Washington Street. The prize for the best float went to the iunior class's fighting dragon. Part of the credit for the football team's successful performance must surely belong to the cheerleaders. The band also performed nobly throughout the festivities and espec- ially during half-time. At the con- clusion of the game the Student Council served a luncheon for the team, cheerleaders, band, Council members and those faculty members involved in Homecoming. That evening the Student Coun- cil staged a Victory Dance which was a great financial success. Thus ended, in the gaily decorated cafeteria to the sounds of the Front Page Review, a Homecoming of which DHS can be iustifiably proud. . at H mfs' , '3' 1. , V 2 i f--1 -f-:Z-V ,wr . Kik- . I 111 , DEBBIE l l , Cernobbia, Italy, has a new person- ight' ality this year: Debbie Davis. She was IQ. ' ' chosen by the American Field Service to spend her senior year in a different country, living with another family, and making new friends. Back in Dux- bury, the cheerful face and under- standing heart of this bright redhead are missed by all. We are all so glad that Debbie was chosen as the lucky person to go to Italy. merieem Field Service INGRID Y .. s S I live in Trondheim, the third largest city in Norway. I attended Strinda Gymnas, a secondary school. Norway's technical University is in Trondheim. I have many of my friends among the studentsi On Fridays and Saturdays we all meet in theS1'udent Community, which is a big, red, round house in Trond- heim center. There we sing, dance, have political meetings, and,of course, have lots of fun. In wintertime I compete in slalom and do cross-country skiing. The mountains around Trondheim make good cross-country skiing. Oppdal, one of Norway's best skiing centers, is not far from Trond- heim. As the college students here go to Florida for February vacat- ion, we go to Oppdal where we ski and do other kinds of recreation. In summertime I compete in track and cross-country running. My best distances are 400 and 800 meter run. I am a member of the sports club Freidig in both summer and winter activities. We compete with boys and girls in Norway and sometimes other Scandinavian countries. This gives us a great opportunity to meet people and get to know Norway better. Besides that,l am interested in politics. I am a member of the YoungConservatives Club in Trondheim. I like to play the piano and listen to all kinds of music, especially Herb Alpert, Beatles, and Folk Song music . I will thank you all for this year. You have all been great and I will miss you all. Soccer All eyes fixed upon them, the eleven in green upheld their record and pushed their way down the field. Down to the cage, to the game, and finally to the South Shore League championship. Duxbury High soccer was for the second straight year a very closely followed sport. Under the guidance of Coach David Webb, the Green Dragons gave a fine show of skill and teamwork, wrapping up the season with a I0-l -I record. By defeating Hingham in a 4-3 match, the team earned honors as league 'champsf This victory enabled DHS to compete in the Eastern Massachusetts Soccer Tourna- ment. Though new to Duxbury High School, wrestling is an ancient sport dating from about 2,000 B.C. lt is a complex sport making use of balance, speed, and lever- age. The team is made up of twelve boys who are matched with opponents in weight classes ranging from T03 to T80 pounds and over. Knowledge and experience, however, are more important than size or strength, a light man can often beat a heavy opponent. The object in wrestling is to pin your opponent by lowering both shoulders to the mat for two seconds. Matches are divided into three two-minute periods, and bout points are given for decisions ibringing your opponent down, reversing position, or placing him in danger of being pinnedl . If a pin is not scored, whoever has more bout points at the end of the six-minute period wins the match. Of the four losses, three were decided by no more than five points. The '68 squad was essentially the some team which, the year before, had lost eight of nine .u gk meets. This shift in performance must be attribu- 1 ted to the coaching of Mr. Michael Lycourgas, who instilled the team with a real desire to win. ln order to win, the team had to place first in practically every event. Mr. Lawrence Dunn directed a cast com- posed of students in grades seven through twelve. The play was Clarence Day's Life with Father. This comedy was made even funnier by several unintentional incidents. Who will forget the milk spilt all over the stage, and the disembodied hand throwing in napkins to clean it up? Remember the curtain that got stuck, and stage manager Judy Wolker's entrance into the play? How about the apron that fell off? The production was certainly one which left its mark onthe history of drama at DHS. 1. fri, ag' fig K f l I ,ur . ,R r es QQ' 1 '-.. 1,1 'J CL 'X ,, o 11 -.
