Seek goodness everywhere, and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding-place and let it be free and unashamed. Place in matter and in flesh the least of the values, for these are the things that hold death and must pass away. Discover in all things that which shines and is beyond corruption. Encourage virtue in whatever heart it may have been driven into secrecy and sorrow by the shame and terror of the world. Ignore the obvious, for it is unworthy of the clear eye and the kindly heart. Be the inferior of no man, nor of any man be the superior. Remember that every man is a variation of yourself. No man's guilt is not yours, nor is any man's innocence a thing apart. Despise evil and ungodli- ness, but not men of ungodliness or evil. These, understand. Have no shame in being kindly and gentle, but if the time comes in the time of your life to kill, kill and have no regret. In the time of your life, live - - - so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it. From THREE PLAYS by William Saroyan, copyright, 1939, 1940, by Harcourt, Brace and Company, Inc. Z L w v N W w I' 7 fx, Q N Huw Rx! The 1960 Partridge to you, Mr. Roger .Tar- vis, we dedicate as a small material token of our great appreciation and affection. Unselfishly you have given of yourself. You have given your time, effort, originality, and talent to enrich our lives. You have inspired us with your love of rnusicg made us laugh with your jokesg and shown us by your every action a man who not only lives life, but loves it as well. Mr. Jarvis, we thank you and know we will look back on you and say: His life was gentle, and the elements So mixed in him that Nature might stand up, And say to all the world, This was a man! fs P I I 5 !x6x , g A! If your answer is no, you are like most of the many thousands of young people who will graduate from high schools all over this country in June. You have undoubtedly given passing thought toa multitude of ideas concerning a future career, but are you aware that the opportunity for success and happiness in life is greater now than at any time in the history of civilization? Are you aware, also, that you are envied by your parents, and by adults generally. for you represent the hopes, dreams and ambitions that were held by many of them not too long ago but which never reached fruition? From the almost unlimited range of opportunities facing you today, you must soon select an area of concentration. Use wisdom and seek advice in making your selection, but once made, pursue your goal with all the energy you possess. Your success in your chosen field will be limited only by the degree to which you are willing to sacrifice. for all success requires sacrifices, As you move along the road to success do not forget that you have not traveled the road alone, for the many personal qualities which are part of the success formula were not bestowed at birth but were, rather, instilled by your parents and your teachers in your earlier years. Each member of your class has received an education at Duxbury High School. The extent to which you have been educated may vary, but of one thing lam certain, -- you have learned! Because you have learned, therefore, you have benefitted by your experi- ence here, To every member of the class of 1900, my sincere wish for a rewarding and a chal- lenging future, for without these two characteristics. the future will be dull. Truly, each of you faces a Future Unlimited. Sincerely, Harry B.
