Those of us who are older recognize all too clearly that as the yours roll by life- becomes more and more complex. Yesterday things sm-cnicd to movc slowly, changes occurred infrequently and we seemed to he in a period marked by steady but slow progress. There was time then for ai high school graduate to adjust to the demands of a waiting world. 'l'oday all of the activities of society seem to be moving ahead at an 1-vcr :accelerating pace. Added to this there is the restlessness and fear which always goes with uncertainty. Graduation into this kind of an world is a vital and engaging challenge to each student and will requirc the vcry highest qualities of good character, rear thinking and hard work. I am confident that the training you have received in the Duxbury High School will help you to meet this challenge with success. The physically qualified men will enter the military services either directly or through college R.O.T.C. units. Only total mobilization is likely to affect the girl-graduates' plans. The members of the Class of 1951 all over the nation may be asked to surrender some of their personal freedoms to preserve the larger idea of individual worth. Those of you who defer your educational or vocational plans to enter military service will emerge from training more able to select a career wisely. If the past is any guide, Congress will grant scholarships or a C.l. Bill so that you, the new veterans, may attend universities, technical schools or receive aid to start businesses. Consider your whole future, not just the immediate months ahead. May the faculty commend you as young men and women for the mature manner in which you have acquiesced to the militar needs of the nation without self pity, and have continued to plan and look to the future. Your example should develop new confidence in the intellectual approach to problem-solving. Congratulations and good luck! Tommy is a hard worker and can be counted on when a job has to be done. In choosing the Nlarines he undoubtedly has an exciting future to look forward to. gr Q1 '::vv EDWARD PAl'l. APRIL Ed Ed was voted the most sophisticated boy in our class, but we will remember him for his interest in shop work. He is a hard worker and has often produced some revolutionary results while working on the mechanical end of dances and plays. His charming, friendly manner assures him of many friends in the future. EYERETT PATRICK BORCHESANI Borgie Borgie's always excelled in the field .of sports and was one of our stars in basket- ball. He seems to have that certain something that the girls go for and is quite a Casanova, but he is a hard worker and has done out- standing work in mathematics. With his eye for the latest in sharp clothes and his neat- ness of dress, he'll make a big hit at ,4 OU' 'Q J . X Q v ix 1:f.,4 ANN LOW BUTLER Patty Patty is our Senior Class President and has earned that position by proving her relia- bility. Climaxing her three performances in the Annual Tournaments of Plays, Patty's characterization of Mrs. Bartruff in the Senior Play certainly made a big hit. FI? WJ! CARL ARTHUR CARLSON We all got a kick out of the serious manner in which Carl portrayed the elderly minister in the Senior Class Play. He's really just a prankster at heart, but he is also sensible and hard working. With his artistic ability, he could be a commercial artist some day. But we guess the Army already has his number. 'S' HARRY BRADFORD CLASS Did someone mention a play? It must be Harry who never misses a hit that comes to Boston. Harry has always been the spokes- man for the college division, one of the reasons being his ability to argue intelli- gently. Northeastern will be gaining a good student when Harry leaves D.H.S. We will always remember the good job he did as judge of the Student Court. A N WILLIAM EDWARD BUTLER Billy With that friendly smile and winsome way, Bill is never without a pal. Whenever you want to find him, just look at the top of the stairs, and there he will be. With the efficiency Bill has shown as head marshal, whipping his subordinates into a cooperative team, we are sure he will go far in his chosen field. .a-4. We all know that Pat is going to be a very good wife some day because she possesses all of the necessary qualities. We wish you the best of luck, Pat. 1 TN ALVIN AUSTIN MARKS Al Because of his shy, quiet manner, we often wonder what the other Alvin is like. His interest seems to be in cars and what makes them go. Next time your car needs repairing we recommend Alvin for the job. FRANCES SHIRLEY IIAGBOIRNF Franny Franny will always be remembered by us as a willing, cooperative worker and as a girl who is fun to have around. I-Ier sense of humor is keen, and she always keeps us laughing. Franny hopes to go to a secre- tarial school where we know she will be a big success. RICH.-XRD HIGGINS Higgie Need a leading man for your new play? Call Higgie: you'll know he's sensational if you saw him as Dr. Fuller in the Senior Class Play. He is also a member of our cheer- leading squad and we know they're going to miss him next year. We hear Higgie plans to continue his dramatic career after gradu- ation. After graduation he plans to continue working for his fatherg but some day, if his dreams come true, he hopes to make the grade as an airport manager. asv, IQDNA RUTH NEWELL Edna has a carefree, jovial manner and is always willing to help where she is needed. She is one of the student leaders in the Ilome Economics classes, and appears to he quite successful. Iler desire to help people has guided her toward a career in attendant nursing. JACOUICLIN FIMER SON MARR l3Iveryone's acquainted with ,Iackie's spark- ling personality and sophistication. We hear her winning ways have given her quite a name as a heart breaker. We often see her flirting here and there in search of excite- ment or to get the latest bit of gossip. If she can settle down long enough, we feel sure that with her background in shorthand and commercial subjects, she'll make some lucky boss an efficient secretary. J I? nqaff' N-rf ROBERT MICHAEL SHEEHAN Bob Where there are girls around, you'll find Bob. When there's responsibility to be taken, you'll find this peppy, young Casanova ready to cooperate. With the art of being boss well mastered, we feel sure he'd make an excellent sergeant in the Army. 177- 2. K ALPHEUS HOLMES WALKER Alphie Alphie's our Junior Einstein and is really a whiz at those A.A. and Student Council treasury books. He seems to be interested in the design of airplanes. We wouldn't be surprised it some day we were flying in one of his creations. We know that his good nature will win him many friends in the years to come. .IOSEPH PAUL SAMPSON foe Joe is one of the quieter members of our class, and we don't hear very much about him. For two years now, he has been elected to the Eastern Massachusetts Second All-Star Soccer Team. He has proved his leadership ability to us by being a successful A.A. president and a captain of the basketball team.
