Dear Seniors: To The Members of The Class of 1950: As you face the problems of the future you inust remember that you received your education during times when the world prepared for war, fought the war, and adjusted itself from war to peace. No one can safely predict what conditions you face. We ltnow that Atomic Energy will affect your lives, we ltnow that world peace must be secured, and we know that education of all the people will be the only true way to secure and hold peace. We know that the safety of nations depends upon young people like you. If there is any message that we would send with you as you go your separate ways into the business world, let it be this- Keep your common sense. Be guided in your actions by those fundamental principles of democracy and truth which we have attempted to instill in you. Have con- tidence in yourself, have trust in your fellow men, and have faith in God. The School Committee, your teachers, and the students left behind wish you well. Leave us now, but don't forget us. We will not forget you. Charles P. Lawrence Superintendent of Schools Your teachers believe you have developed a respect for scholarship and a desire to react intelltt tually rather than emotionally. The tolerant inannei in which you evaluate the merits of each nieinber of your class shows that you are beginning to recogi the social worth of each individual. Une of the inost prized possessions of any group is the ability to worlt together for a connnon goal. This quality, which tails individual responsibility for actions ol' others, is a prerequisite for a smoothly functioning democracy in any country. You are not drifting: you have a plan lol the future. There is evidence that you have at quired soine ofthe techniques of sell'-education. Since Society is not organized to guide and help you beyond the high school age, these are the qualities upon w hit h you niust depend. Many of you will soon leave Duxbury loi -- rw careers, and lile. lln lurther education, business laculty wishes you every success and believes that you are prepared to nn-el the deinands of an ever changing world.
