THE DUXBURY BAY POETRY CORNER Each time one of the Great White Fleet relieves one another as Fl sh' Commander Middle East Force, old custom has it that ag 1p poems oi greeting are exchanged. In july, 1965, we relieved the USS GREENWICH BAY QAVP-411, whereupon she sent us a message of greeting and we returned the favor. In january, 1966, the GREEN WICH BAY was right back to relieve us as flagship and we, happy to see her, sent our little message of welcome. From the DUXBAY -- July 1965: The DUCKY DOO is on its way To relieve the harried Greenwich Bay. So stop your crying, dry your tears, You'll soon be back at the DESSUB Piers. Across the pond and through the Med We've dieseled our way to the sea that's red, swam in Palma, toured in Greece, drank in Lisbon, then rested in peace. We'll be there shortly in Port Suez with a tassel hanging from our Turkish Fez to relieve you of your burdens great, take on the Staff and await our fate. We'll have plenty of liberty -- the kind that's rare, in places like jidda and Sir Aub nu Air. It'1l be hot with no women, no rum, and no wine, but having the stadd makes everything fine. So you go on home, sandy white Greenwich Bay, We've come for our tour and a six month stay. Back to Norfolk -- fun and games for you, To Admin inspections and materials too. We hope FLOT FOUR makes you cry 'till you laugh, And wish you were back out tending the Staff. By: ENS Mitchell Bender, USN Fred Wise, YNC, USN From the GREENWICH BAY -- july 1965: Ahoy good ship called Duxbury Bay, Rejoice with us on this great day. We P338 the sack, to you our relief, . as we depart from the Middle East. We trust you had a pleasant journey which to us, seemed like an eternity. The Sight .Of .Y01-1, has made us glad, 9-Hd deep 1ns1de even a little sad, 60

We did our job and did it well, and to many firends, we must bid farewell. The Greenwich Bay has shown you how, So the number one team, now takes it's bow. We give you MIDEASTFOR and his barge, and wish you luck, to take you far. As time goes by, you may have gripes, Which will disappear, ar the Crypt at nights. Plan your work and work the plan, And yougll have everything well inhand. Take good care of COMIDEASTFOR team For whom we have so much esteem. We accept your relief and give you the sack: Will see you in March, when you get back. God Speed, smooth seas and fair weather: Good luck on your new ende avor. And finally, from DUXBAY -- january 1966: Greetings old sister, officers and crew, Having you relieve us is indeed something new. We are happy to see you all shiny and white, Like a vision of Allah as you steamed into sight. It's been nearly six months, but we knew you'd come back To take on the Staff, the barge and the sack, To take up patrol in the land of the sun, . To cruise with the Flag and have lots of fun. But if wine, women and song seem to be your delight, Then you're in for a hell of a plight. For here in the East we drink only beer, And women and song, there's neither one here. Our job is won, and now it's your turn. While we head for cool waters, you'll sweat and you'll burn We've worked long and hard, served the Staff at our best, The sack is now yours as we head for our best. A word of advice as we start this last trip: Be proud of your work, be proud of your ship. Bend to the task as we leave you behind: Be fair to the Staff, and they'll treat you in kind.
