SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Life is changeable. It is something like the season: warm sunny and bright--the next: cold, windy and dark. That is the way with the life of seniors, Yesterday we were in elementary schools: today we are in high school, and tomorrow--we wonder! It was September 1950, a calm, peaceful, autumn day, when the portals of Duval High School swung open and a hearty group of 95 girls and boys shyly entered the doors, but were not long in adjusting themselves to feel at home. By the help of three wonderful sponsors, Irs. Flo B. Van Horn, lr. Eldon Atkins, and Mrs. Irene Rose. The entire class progressed nicely throughout the school term. The class was well represented in athletics and social activities. One of the biggest activities of the year was the class party which vas enjoyed by everyone. Te our disappointment when school opened in the fall of 1951 we learn ed that many of our classmates had failed to return but still our group was large Our sponsors, Irs Irene Rose and lisa Betty Hauldren, were a great help to us, naturally being higher classmen we needed more help This year proved to be a difficult one for them, but by their willingness and atti tude toward their school activities, they came out happy and victorious in the spring of 1952 Thus another step was accomplished, bringing ourselves up into the role of Juniors We then turned the Sophomore estate over to the Freshmen of that year Juniors, at last, and were we proud' This was the beginning of our gay tiles Under the direction of our good sponsors lrs larion Vance and Irs Irene Rose, we gave the Junior play, 'Amazing racieu, which was well received by the public In the spring of 1953 we paid our respect to the Senior Class by giving them a banquet We again invited the Sophomore of that year to take our seats and we then began making preparations for the day of all days HGraduation After three years of labor, we came back proudly for the last time, to enroll as Seniors We vera disappointed to find that so many of our class had fallen by the wayside, leaving only forty one to finish the work At the middle of this school term it was an honor to move into the new school building and most of all to be the first Seniors te graduate from it Our class should be complimented for our representation on the school football, basketball, and baseball teams for the last three years We plan to present WHeadin' For The Hills' as our Senior Play We, also, plan to have a Student Participant Commencement Our sponsors, Mrs Iva Iae Vande Linde and lr Howard Smith, have been a great help to us in solving our many problems They deserve a hearty thanks Then there will be the final day that will make every Senior happy and sad it is when we are handed that precious slip of paper, the diploma le will leave the school which we shall never forget to praise Duval High' Each one of our class vill be proud to say '!as, I am a graduate of Duval High H and with as much dignity as possib e add, Wand a member of the class of l 54 Jackie Vickers, Historian z Of Q . . ll . - V , I I O I . . 5 ..
