.ff - Miss Ensuz SMITH lie ib'l6l7y Standing my wateh over this grand old institution I have seen the library grow into an invaluable part of Durham High School. This year under the direction of Miss Emily Loftin it eelehrated during BOOK VVEEK its twenty-fifth anniversary with the first fornial broadeast from the high sehool audi- torium. That. afternoon parents, teachers, home room presidents, and Library Club members sipped tea and looked at some of the -H10 new books and sixty-five periodicals that the students have enjoyed this year. l'AHl-126 041: .llvepmfment Right under me is the Art. Department, the big' room on the third floor that was al- ways oyerllovving' with students who loved to paint and work. The art classes, under the direction ot' Miss Elsie Smith, made adver- tisements and performed odd art jobs for the sehool whieh we1'e fun as well as profit- able. The artists were an important part of the Ili-Ruelfef and BIESSENGER statits. Then, of course, there were the regular elasses of painting, drawing, inkingr, model- ing, and studying famous artists. By the way, what do you think of modern art? Although it hefuddles me completely, the art students seem to like it. Miss l+lM1l.Y LOFTIN

obpezatiue epafztment The Vooperative llepartnient lays Vlilllll only to one subhead, that of the Uoiiperative Ulass. Year after year l'ye witnessed the graduation of hundreds of Fo-Lip alumni, and year after year, l've seen thein occupy positions of merit in the eoinniunity. This is evidenee ot' the innnense spirit of brother- hood found in this special class, offering op- portunities of education plus part-time eni- ployinent. Indeed, Miss Maude F. Rogers, associate founder and present director, and her boys have long been and will remain an essential faction in the progress attributed To this strut-ture whieh I crown, Mics. Louise: Donmxs mg ' MISS Marmz ITHGERS ibfe lepaztment An indispensable part of my school is the Bible llepartlnent headed by Mrs. Dobbins. More students than ever took the course in l-Sible this year. Through this course they furthered their spiritual life and their know- ledge of the Bible. Indeed, it was inspiring to watch the stu- dents as they studied something so worth- while. This study of the Bible, whieh was apparently of great interest to them, is sure to remain a definite part of the students in the years to t'0!llt'. rant: 27
