Newsom was mayor ol' the city of Durham for nearly four years prior to 1921. lVhen the big bond issue was plan- ned, he was foremost among those who car- rieil the measure through the preliminary steps and then through the special election. He has always been an enthusiastic advo- cate for progress in Durham in every right direction, It meant a great deal to the success of the plans to have in the mayor of the city an earnest faithful friend, who gave generously of his time, thought and influence in furthering the interests of the school. M R. .l ONES Fl.'l,Lli R Qllr. Jones Fuller became a member of the school board in 1915 and served until 1921. During the last three years of his tel m he was chairman of the board. These were the years when the plans for the school development of the recent past were formulated and carried to a point of as- sured,completion. Mr, Fuller was chair- man of the special committee which chose the building site for the new high school.
