1982-1983 A YEAR OF AWARENESS The world in which we existed had become a boiling pot of violence. We became aware of the ever present threat of hostilities that could easily erupt into a full scale war. Not only had we become more involved in our academics, we became more informed and concerned about the world around us. The cold war went in to a deep freeze as relations between America and Russia worsened. Fight- ing was still going on in the Middle East, South America and Asia. From the shooting down of a Korean jet liner to the downing of our jets over Lebanon, the killing and the destruc- tion became a common theme for newsmen. Television added a touch of reality to a nuclear war with The Day After, As our junior year came to a close we knew that to be aware of and concerned about the events around us was good. But, we also knew that such events could not alter our personal goals. We wanted to make the most of our high school years and to become peaceful, yet productive members of society.
