The team's secondary defense, considered by many to be the best in the area, allowed only 48 points to be scored by the opposition in nine games. The offense was centered around the undeniable talents of senior quarterback, John Silvia. Silvia was the team’s leading scorer with over 40 points. Although the Hilltop griders lost to New Bedford in the annual Thanksgiving Day game that was played on the newly dedicated Mac Aldrich Field, they achieved impressive victo- ries over Somerset, Coyle-Cassidy, Falmouth, and Taunton. Our victorious drive was led by senior captain George (Skip) Darmody and Juniors David Czerwonka and Eric Larrivee, These three were to be the nucleus of a very young squad of runners being coached by a new arrival, Ozug. The following three meets would see Durfee to defeat against three powerful teams: Seekonk, Somerset and Attleboro. Darmody, however, took 2nd, 3rd and 1st place finishes re- spectively in these meets, and Czerwonka and Larrivee were also among the “top ten”. Czerwonka, a veteran of the squad, was placing an impressive 4th or 5th in the line up. Durfee High School of Fall River. Your courses of study at our beloved Durfee have been finished, and the resultant should have been a code of life that perhaps was best expressed by Thomas Dreier. To waken each morning with a smile brightening my face. To greet the day with reverence for the opportunity it brings. To approach my work with a clean mind. To hold ever before me, even in doing the little things, the ultimate purpose toward which f am working. To meet people with laughter on my lips and love In my heart, To be gentle, kind, and courteous through all the hours. To approach the night with weariness that ever woos sleep, and the joy that comes from work well done - this is how 1 desire to waste wisely my days. It is our prayer that you will succeed in adhering to the code. On this, your graduation day, you are advised as to “how shall I find the full meaning of life”. ADMWJSZRA ZJOh1 ADMWSZKA ZJOtf As members of the Class of 1980, you have the distinction of being the very last class to have walked the corridors of the old buildings on Rock Street while having graduated from this new building. In your reunions, especially in the later ones, you will remember that distinction with warmth and pride. When you came here as sophomores in May of 1978, you served as pathfinders in an experience that Durfee students had not undergone in nearly one hundred years — the experience of living in totally new surroundings. You did exceptionally well in extraordinary circumstances. In the years to come, you can look upon your success here with pride. The best traditions of Durfee are safe because of you; the new traditions are vital because of you. Your class leaders have done an outstanding job; so have your scholars and athletes. So have you all. Durfee congratulates you. Durfee thanks you. May you have as much success and pride in all the endeavors that you undertake! PKJMJPAC 3AMSS S. t’AA’OS 164 Leonard G. Getting up, we dress in leather and Le- vis. We collect our books, give a kiss good-bye and rush to meet our bus or get to our cars. The home environment is soon behind us as we head to another world. We discover, learn and socialize in a fast moving world known as B.M.C. Durfee H.S. of Fall River. The tone sounds the beginning of the home- room rush. The excuses are given, and we get our tardy slips. Homeroom is extended; thus giving us a chance to catch up on homework that should of been done last night. 198 Moving out with the sound of the tone, we rush on to our morning classes. First period, gym. Swimming and gymnastics here we go. Some sneak into flex because they forgot their gym clothes or failed to get an excuse slip from the nurse. A last minute review as we cram for a test, and a substitute makes our day. Lunch time comes quickly, but the lunch lines moves slowly. The 35 cents delectable lunch is always an experience, but the odor of the food compactor is too much. Hey! Get your tray. Taking along a little indigestion with us, we head for the bakery for our dessert. S. and in the city and not many will be able to forget, and most will always remember. With a staff of compiled an accurate and original representation of our three years together. Illustrated with We are a part of history working people, we have I and narration I presents a pictoral and written record of the history we made. There are many people I sincerely thank for making this book possible: My friends and staff, all of whom have added to its contents, and to “Chuck”, our official photographer from Loring Studios, who took most of our pictures. Our book became a reality because of Josten’s Yearbook Company and its helpful representative, Norval Garnett. Special thanks must go to R. W. Pineault. In his last year as yearbook advisor, he has put all of his energies and talent towards making this the best yearbook ever. We wish him the best of luck in his new post, and leave him with our highest respect. I wish the best to all of my classmates, and look forward to the times when we will all be together again. The hallways of Durfee will always be here, but when next we walk them, it will not be as students. Yet the tradition we will be leaving behind, will always be kept alive by those who will now take our place. KERRY HARTNETT EDITOR
