SUPERINTENDENT TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 1975 You have been prepared to accept the challenge that life now has thrust upon you. Change has been characteristic of your life and you are now afforded the opportunity to direct change of the future. If you have learned the history of the past, if you have assimilated the philoso- phy of the thinkers and if you have grasped the sublities of academic change, you might meet your chal- lenge. If you are not able to offer solutions that will change the world for the better to the satisfaction of all, then you have better give some thought as to whether your years of preparation and guidance were all worth while. PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL Once again we come to that time when high school seniors face up to their inevitable and pleasurable advancement from one facet of their lives to the next. For all of you the stage is set, the die is cast; you have crossed the Rubicon. For many it is college or post-secondary schooling wherein your fine edges will be honed; for others it is on to the business community. For all it is a new time for making a life and making a living. Whatever your choice, we your teachers charge you to continue developing your talents to their fullest while utilizing the best that you have acquired here at Durfee. You enter a world troubled with many and complex prob- lems, a world which seems to be losing its moral sense while its people lose their sensitivity to their fellow man, a world largely undernourished and poorly sheltered, whose popu- lation is expected to double by the time most of you are little more than 40 years old. Be not discouraged, however, since there is much to be hoped for as you begin your adult lives. We of our generation, knowing your capabilities, have every reason to believe that you will succeed in areas where we may have failed. From you we know will come the goodness and morality so sorely needed in the world. May you always enjoy a good and fruitful life, serving others before yourselves, ever-proud of your heritage, your high school and your city. My feelings are ambivalent at this time. On the one hand, I am sad to see you leave, but on the other hand, I am happy to join with all who have touched your lives in offering my heartiest congratulations upon your graduation from high school. You have my very best wishes for a life replete with worthy achievement in the same noble tradition of the many outstanding graduates who have gone before you. lames F.
