TO THE B. M. C. DURFEE CLASS OF 1972: It is not only a pleasure, but a special honor, to have been invited to share my thoughts with you on your graduation from B. M. C. Durfee High School. Your graduation is a happy day for you and for your parents. It is your finest hour, and we also can truthfully join with you in saying that it is our finest hour. This is an important time in your lives. You have made a major accomplishment. You have reached a desirable goal. I am sure there is a glow of satisfaction within each of you; this is a reward for the success you have achieved. You have had to exercise effort, make some amount of sacrifice. You have had to have endurance and perseverance; but isn't it worth while? Aren't you glad you are now graduating and that you have made the grade? Remember that this day can mark the beginning of a series of successes in your lifetime which can give you similar satisfaction, for you now are aware that the secret of that success is you, not only from the standpoint of the ability you possess but especially because of your perseverance. Thomas Edison once said that 75% of the world's failures would not have failed at all if they had kept at what they were trying to do. Our greatest weakness, he said lies in giving up. The way to success is to try just one more time.” Another important factor in this matter of success is the ability to get along with people, ft is good to reflect upon this quality. John D. Rockefeller once said, I will pay more for the ability to deal with people than for any other single thing.” Most of you, I am sure, already have future careers in mind. Some of you are thinking about industry, law, medicine, teaching or the ministry. Whatever may be your goal, don’t expect to reach it in one big jump There are many rounds to a fight, and a good fighter stays in the ring. In the struggle for life, the first condition of victory is to stay in the ring, to hold on to your ideas and your ideals, to keep your eyes on the goal. Remember you can change the world for better and for worse by the power of your personality, the kindness and charm of your character, the strength of your will and the wisdom of your vision. The world needs each of you as never before. Give of yourselves, the best that you have, and the best will come back to you. ROBERT J. NAGLE Superintendent FACULTY Thomas W.
