To the Class of 1971: I wish to congratulate you and to wish you well in the life that lies before you. It is my hope that you will bring credit to your- selves and to your school and City, but I am aware of the burden you carry as you face a worried and troublesome world. You have succeeded in meeting the re- quirements for a high school diploma, but you are facing an ever-expanding field of learning that should not frighten you. It is my hope that you will continue to learn and grow in terms of what you can do for others as well as what you will accomplish for your- selves. B.M.C. Durfee High School has given you an opportunity to think boldly and creatively and you must now develop a sense of res- ponsibility for your own conduct as it relates to your seach and understanding of the mean- ing of trust, authority, freedom, beauty, love and truth. These are the virtues that can make you free; and I ask you to remember them as you rush eagerly into your exciting post-graduate lives.
