To the Class of 1968: Education is hardly ever the pause that refreshes. It is a continuous experience from birth through our lifetime. The complications of education and the pressures exerted on faculty, students and parents by college boards, and other testing programs have resulted in experiencing various degrees of impa- tience by everyone. Added to these were the various announcements concerning manner of dress, hair styles and the need to stay awake in the Study Hall. This was not all bad. If we at Durfee were able to convince you that by conforming to certain rules you would be better able to place things in the proper perspective and be able to determine where you are going and how to get there, then all the griping and criticism was worthwhile. We hope that in addition to giving you a good academic background in subject matter wTe have also taught you to keep your balance, exercise restraint and respect the feelings of others. In these troubled times we are depending on you to help solve some of our problems and make this a better world. May I extend my congratulations on your accomplishments and wish you a bright future. To the Members of the Graduating Class of 1968 of the B. M. C. Durfee High School: I extend to you my heartiest congratulations on the occasion of your graduation from the B. M. C. Durfee High School. You have completed a course of study that should have answered the question, “Plow shall 1 find the full meaning of life? We are convinced that your years of schooling have provided you with parts of the answer to that question. We would now hope that you know something of beauty, of the many ways in which it is revealed and the art of expressing it. We trust that you are sensitive to the world around you, that you are able to feel the wind and to really see the stars and the moon and the trees and to live within this environment. We hope that we have developed in you a sense of aesthetic taste to have a feeling for and about the things in your lives. We want you to be discriminating in artistic and cultural tastes, as well as intellectual. We hope that now you are able to see yourselves clearly in relation to others. Our purpose has been to train you so that the true Durfee graduate realizes fully that every man, as long as he lives, must make some kind of response to fundamental experiences and must respond to such aspects of his search for the meaning of trust, compassion, authority, discipline, freedom, hope, beauty, truth and love. We have succeeded if, on your graduation day, you know the answer to the question, “How shall I find the full meaning of life?”
