TO YOU, THE CLASS OF 1961: I offer my heartiest congratulations on the completion of your high school education. For many years your parents and teachers have tried to direct you towards the paths that lead to successful careers. Your preparation has included solid subject matter augmented by the high ideals of cooperation, courtesy, and self-control that are all a part of the Durfee High School tradition. This has been your preparation for success, but it will be only a blurred image without work and perseverance to bring it into focus. You must now face the challenge of a busy industrial life or the continuation of research in the college of your choice. We pray that you will be well spiritually, mentally, and physically, and it is our hope that you will make your life successful as well as happy and worthwhile. Principal

IN MEMORIAM JEREMIAH E. HOLLAND ROMEO J. DUFOUR In bidding farewell to the faculty of Durfee and expressing our deep appreciation to the men and women who have instructed and guided us for four years, we join them in mourning the loss of two outstanding teachers who were taken by death in the course of our senior year. Mr. Holland and Mr. Dufour served honorably in our nation's armed forces in time of war; in peace, they devoted all their talent and energy to the task of impressing upon us the importance of respect for life and property, especially on the highways. Together they established and administered the Driver Education Program in our school. With patience and understanding they prepared hundreds of students not only for the State test but also for a lifetime of safe driving. The most sincere tribute we can pay to their memory is a pledge to put into constant practice the principles they strove so earnestly to teach.
