To the Class of ]959: In graduating; from B. M. CL Durfee High School, you reach a long-anticipated milestone. Your parents, relatives, and friends are proud of you; and I hasten to add my congratulations to theirs. Here at Durfee you have displayed a growing maturity. You have been willing to assume responsibilities both in the more challenging work of the classroom and in the varied extra- curricular activities of the school. Each one of you has benefited, I am sure, from daily contact with sincere teachers and from the many opportunities to demonstrate individuality, resourcefulness, and eagerness to take directions. These qualities, coupled with a sense of direction and a seriousness of purpose in your life, and strengthened by a determination to do your best, come what will, are guarantees of success Whether you turn now to the world of work or to continued education, it is my sincere hope that the future will be bright indeed and that you will enjoy continued good health and happiness. TO MEMBERS OF THE 1959 GRADUATING CLASS OF THE B.M. C DURFEE HIGH SCHOOL Please accept my sincerest congratulations and my best wishes on this, the occasion of your graduation from Durfee. Behind you now are several years in which you have had the truly American opportunity of preparing yourselves for early adulthood. Many of you will use this training to go on to higher education and will find that your education is based to a large extent on what you have been taught and what you have learned in your high school Others of you will take up immediately adult responsibilities. You will rely even more on the formal education you have received thanks to the citizens of Fall River who have supported you. The world into which you go will expect to find you able to accept the many roles which the times provide. I feel certain that under the guidance of your teachers and your parents you have matured to a point where you will not be found wanting. With you ride the hopes of all of us and the sincere expectations that you will live lives creditable to your parents, your community and the nation. Again my very best wishes!
