To the Members of the 1958 Graduating Class of the B. M. C. Durfee High School: I am delighted to be allowed to extend to you my sincere congratulations. With my congratulations go the best wishes not only of myself, but of every member of the Fall River public school system. Now, you take your turn as the newest of the unending line of high school graduates entering the world of the adult. With the excellent training that you have received at your high school, we have every confidence that you will take an honorable place in the world about you. The dramatic events of current history will be felt by you more and more. I do not need to remind you that recent happenings have caused the nation to take a new look at its young people—to question whether or not they have been rendered soft by prosperity and modern educational theories. There is no doubt in my mind that this is not the case— there is no doubt in my mind that you have the courage, the ability, to face up to difficult problems and do them well. May the blessings of God go with you and may your future be all that you hope it to be. Sincerely yours,
”

In appreciation of her infin- ite patience, professional skill and general interest in her students, the Class of 1958 dedicates its Record Book to Miss Elizabeth L. Leonard. With deepest respect and ad- miration we pay this tribute to a teacher who has been de- voted not only to her class- room work but also to extra curricular activities, partic- ularly the Speakers' Bureau, throughout her years of service to Durfee.

To the Class of 1958: Few Durfee graduating classes have ever left the shelt- ered classroom and parental supervision under circumstances more tantalizing, more clearly demanding of the individual than exist in the world today. You are proud, I am sure, to have attended a high school loyal in its curriculum to the great tradition of Western culture. What you have studied at Durfee will serve you in good stead, whether you plan to outdo the Russians in the designing of Sput- niks and guided missiles or to make your presence felt in the more mundane orbits of business and society. The habits of concentra- tion, of punctuality, of scholarship and service, of sincerity and intellectual honesty which your fine teachers have striven so hard to impress upon you will grow in value with the years. You will go forward to further education or to the world of work with a deep confidence strengthened, too, by your abiding religious faith. I am indeed happy to congratulate you upon your graduation from B. M. C. Durfee High School. May you grow in strength, in wisdom, and in happiness day by day.
