FEE OF 1944 A Message ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ To you, members of the Class of 1944, I give the hearty congratula- tions of the faculty on the completion of your high school years, unusual years in which you have been forced to meet unusual situations, and you have met them well. Forty-five boys from your class have already gone from Durfee’s portals to enter military service, and they are but the vanguard of many more of you, both boys and girls, who will soon be enrolled in the armed forces of our country. In addition to your regular school program, many of you have helped on the home front by working in the various war indus- tries of our city. The patriotism that all of you have displayed, when called upon to aid in any way the war effort, has been a splendid example for classes to come. You have assisted in the drives for the collection of paper and scrap metal; you have been part of the invasion army of Durfee students in behalf of the Red Cross drive; you have con- sistently bought War Savings Stamps and War Bonds, but you have risen to the greatest height of patriotic effort in the Fourth War Loan Drive when Durfee “took to the air” by the purchase of a mighty bomber. This height to which you have risen in your patriotism and loyalty to your school is the symbol of the skyward flight of the pilot who will guide your bomber in one of the theaters of war. As that pilot for the safe accomplishing of his mission will take his bomber high above the clouds, so may you keep high your ideals of courage, patriotism, and right living to guide you safely through the years ahead—hard years of war and still harder years of peace with problems which will require love of country, integrity of character, clearness of vision, and the courage to follow that vision. Upon you, the men and women of the immediate future, depends the solution of these problems. Upon your loftiness of purpose depends the retention of the democratic princi- ples of our founding fathers. DEDICATED ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ DURFEE goes INTO TO THE BOYS AND GIRLS OF DURFEE WHO HAVE CONE INTO THE AIR, DOWN TO THE SEA AND TO DISTANT LANDS, IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY FOR THE FREEDOM OF MANKIND . . , . ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Pilots of Air-minded Class of ’44 Wilfred C. Donnelly, counselor and friend, we, the members of the Class of 1944, dedicate this book. CLASS OFFICERS Donald Ashworth President William Suneson Vice President Fernand’s; Lemay Secretary HONOR ROLL Many members of the Class of 1944 entered the service of their Country before the completion of their senior year. They were eager and ready to serve and to them the Class of 1944 pays honor. Other members of the class are already enlisted in some branch of the service but are now on inactive duty, subject to call when their school days are over. To them, too, the Class of 1944 pays tribute. We must not forget that in a short time most of the boys of 1944 will have answered their Country’s call to serve. To our faculty advisors, Miss Katherine L. Hogan and Mr. John V. Donnelly, we are indebted, for without their aid we would not have been able to complete our work. We wish to thank the presidents and faculty advisors of the various clubs for contributing pictures and accounts regarding their organizations. We are grateful to our Staff Typist, Gladys Shea, who spent many tedious hours preparing material for this book. To Jessie Kalil and Beatrice Rashkovsky go many thanks for typing copy for the Record Book. Praise is due Michael Cantwell whose cartoons add a pictorial review of the activities which have taken place at Durfee. The Staff also wishes to thank the Fall River Herald News for allowing us to use the pictures of the athletic teams. Without them our book would be incomplete. GUS PAPPAS ADELINE SOUZA Born, May 20, 1925 Died, June 7, 1943 Born, July 10, 1925 Died January 10, 1944 STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION President Gloria E. Urcelay Vice President Secretary Mildred E. Jackson Ina Rosenthal Because of war conditions, the Student Council, which is the govern- ing board of the Students’ Activities Association, has had an unusually busy year assisting in the various drives in which the school has taken part, in addition to conducting the usual program of school activities. The first assembly of the year was an innovation, its purpose to acquaint the student body with the clubs of Durfee. Other student gather- ings sponsored by the Council have been the fall Football Rally, the Awards Assemblies, the Scrap Drive rallies, and the assembly for the Bond Drive Awards. A special Christmas assembly was arranged as an entertainment for members of the Students’ Activities Association. Highlights in the school year were the Pigskin Hop in November, the Football Banquet in December, and the Officers’ Banquet in March. As a variation in the social calendar, an evening dance, the Midwinter Hop, was held during the New Year holidays in place of the senior and junior after- noon partes. Council Members—Ruth Christophers ’44, Norman Leigh ’44, Rita A. Manupelli ’44, William E. Suneson ’44, Catherine E. Borden ’45, Francisco T. Cabral ’45, Marion D. Stavros ’46, Raymond H. Turgeon '46, Ralph P. Dupont ’47. Faculty Advisors—Miss Mary Lee, Mr. James F. Conlin, Miss Anne L. O’Neil, Treasurer. HOME ROOM DIRECTORS President Vi ce-President Rita Manupelli Fred Kozak The Home Room Directors organization, the largest elective group in the school, is composed of a boy and girl director chosen in each home room at the beginning of the school year. These directors must have reached definite scholastic standards and should possess initiative, power of lead- ership, and readiness to cooperate. This year, these boys and girls have been busier than usual. They, with the student cashiers, did much of the work required for the success of the Fourth War Loan Drive, Stimulating their classmates, collecting and carrying the money, and then bringing back to their rooms the stamps and the bonds placed much responsibility in their hands. This, of ■course, was in addition to their regular duties of assisting in the home room tasks and in the sale of tickets for many school activities. The directors are a very cooperative group which has become almost indispensable to carrying out the projects yearly inaugurated at Durfee. THE BAND The Band, under the leadership of the Misses Helen L, Ladd and Victoria Isenberg, played an important part in various school activities. Everyone of its members showed his keen interest in arousing school spirit. Some of the parades in which the band participated included those on Armistice Day, Memorial Day and I Am An American Day, The music was provided for the John Foster Stafford Post of the American Legion on these occasions. The band performed at all the football games, and played at many assemblies held throughout the year. During the half at the football games, the band put on an exhibition of drill letters which was an example of the fine training received under Mr, Keeley’s leadership. Besides the parades and football games, this organization showed its musical talent by taking part in the program of the All-Boy Concert, held annually during the month of May. The officers of the band were Charles Tavoularis, student conductor; James Thorpe, librarian and Jennie Salwan, drum majorette. COMMERCIAL CLUB President Dorothy Blanchard Treasurer Secretary Gladys Shea Bertha Collins The Commercial Club is one of the largest organizations in Durfee, Its members are all Commercial Seniors, having a rating of 80% or better in all their studies. The aim of the Commercial Club is to create higher standards of commercial scholarship, greater interest in business education and to provide vocational guidance and social activities for its members. Since its first meeting in November, this Club has had a very active year. At the January meeting, Mr. R. Morgan Thompson spoke on “Mer- chandising and National Relations.” The Valentine Dance, which more than four hundred students attended, was a social success. The Typewriter Speed Competitive Test held in March created intense interest. Award Day was a day to remember and cherish. In June the Club had its annual outing which concluded a happy and active year. It has been a busy but fruitful year and one which will last long in the memory of all its members. The Faculty Advisor is Mr. George C. Hoar. DRAMATIC CLUB Characters : A former member and a present member of the D.C.C. Scene: Main Street, Fall River, 1944 Present Member: Why, hello, sailor. How are you? Where've you been? Former Member: I'm O.K. Just back from the Pacific. P. M.: Bet you had some fun, eh? F. M.: Oh, not so much as I did at the Dra- matic Club's Hallowe'en parties. They were fops. Say, when was Novelty Nite? P. M.: April 28 and we went crazy getting uip enough skits, plays, and dances. Anything goes for Novelty Nite. F. M.: I'll say. I remember when I was in it, we had about JO acts. P. M.: Well, ours lasted over three hours and it was lots better than yours. Take our first show, the matinee. We had a full house with junior high school children even waiting for the “second showing. F. M.: What did you do for Curtain at Eight? P. M.: We had three queens, Cleopatra, Elizabeth and Victoria with Shakespeare thrown in for good measure. And it was good. F. M. How’s your treasury? P. M.: It’s aces this year. We even donated a large sum to a Service Men's Library so you could read plays and theatre news We gave a radio broadcast boosting the war bond drive which we repeated at three assemblies, as well as over WSAR. F. M.: Did you enter a play in the Drama Festival? P. M.: We sure did. Twenty of us drove up to Belmont to see our Durfee stars get a high rating with “Lonesome-like. F. M.: And now is everything over for the year? P. M.: I should say not. We're having our big banquet and giving an out-of-door play in June in a garden for a Women's Club. F. M,: Did you ever take your plays around the city as we did? P. M.: Yes indeed, we’ve given them for old folks, young folks and many church groups here and there. F. M,: Did you take in many Thespians? P. M.: A good big crowd of fine members. We have a stage and lighting crew this year, as well as actors second to none. F. M.: O.K. O.K. I'll have to admit you're pretty sharp. Well, it’s swell to hear about everything. Remember me to the gang. P. M.: You bet, and why not write to the club? They love to read letters from you old- times, especially those in the service. F. M.: I'll do that. So long. P. M.: Good luck, sailor. Dramatic Club Officers—President, Sylvia Sett low; Vice President, Raymond Powers; Secretary, Gloria Soloff; Call Girl, Jacqueline LaForest; Fin.-Sec., Arnold Friedman; Recorder, Elaine Kline. DEBATING The prospects for an active debating season during the school year were not very encouraging. There was a lack of experienced debaters and there was the limitation of schedule necessitated by the cancellation of the district and state National Forensic League Speech Tournaments. Furthermore, many nearby schools that formerly had active schedules had curtailed or eliminated their programs. However, the squad began working in February and in April the teams to represent Durfee were chosen. Bradford and Bruce Wild were selected to debate the affirmative of the subject, “Resolved, That the League of Nations be reconstituted.” Hans Picard and Thomas Higgins were selected to represent the negative. The inexperience of the debaters was evident in the debates, inasmuch as both teams lost to New Bedford. Mr. William F. Kaylor is faculty advisor. THE HILLTOP With one of the smallest staffs since the formation of the Durfee Hilltop 22 years ago, another year of financial success and popularity for the school paper may be recorded in this book. Under the supervision of Mr. John T. Crowley, the members of the Journalism II Class have applied the fundamentals of journalism from the text books to the actual publishing of the paper. This year news gathering was directed by Esmer W. Nelson. Colum- nists were Estelle C. Garonsky, Marjorie H. Phillips and Irene M. Ferreira. Elaine H. Rodman was business manager and Joseph J. Holland, sports editor. With John R. Berry as editor-in-chief, the small staff has been able to produce what has been considered one of the best Hilltops in the history of journalism at Durfee. Walk The Library Aids Association was formed in September, 19-30 under the guidance of Miss Marion E. Kernan, the schoo] librarian, and is com- posed of students chosen from the three upper classes, because of their cooperation, scholastic standing, and general helpfulness. Their duties begin at 8:00 A. M. when four aids are on duty till 8:15, issuing passes, receiving books, delivering gray slips, and assisting in locating material. Several are also on duty each period delivering passes, locating pupils, checking shelves, arranging bulletin boards, checking library science material and attendance and making minor book repairs. In general, they keep the library in order and are very helpful to pupils and teachers. They often render efficient service elsewhere. An attractive Christmas Tree and Manger adorned the library during the holiday season The Library invites Study and Browsing LITERARY CLUB The Durfee Literary Club entered upon its tenth season with a spirit of enthusiasm, but, like other clubs, experienced more than ordinary difficulty in following a pre-arranged schedule. Despite the efforts of President Edward Burns, Vice President Barbara Jackson, and Secretary Judith Kahn to present a well-balanced program, meetings were meagerly attended. Members were working after school. Each individual's contribution to the war effort was of first importance—and rightly so. The club was happy in the thought that its members were foregoing pleasure for serious business. Of the many manuscripts submitted, most were familiar essays, a few were original stories, and a handful were poems. Of the last, several reflect- ed the spirit of the times, thus emphasizing the fact that in these turbulent days the creative genius must forsake its ivory tower and serve its master, mankind. Faculty Advisor—Mr. Ambrose F. Keeley. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY President William Suneson Vice President Marjorie Murphy Secretary William Murphy The National Honor Society is purely honorary in scope. Its members are chosen each spring from the upper twenty-five per cent of the junior and senior classes. The pupils are judged not only by their scholastic record, but also by their service, leadership and character. After the candidates have been selected, they are inducted into the Society at an impressive ceremony held early in June. At this time they realize their achievement and resolve to live up to the four aims for which the organiza- tion stands. ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS The Durfee Orchestra and Chorus, under the direction of Miss Helen L, Ladd, have successfully completed one of their busy seasons. The Chorus at Christmas made its annual procession through the school corridors singing carols and later sang at the Fall River Rotary Club, Two American operettas, “Stephen Foster” and “Ballad for Amer- icans, were given in February, Miss Barbara Wellington and the Dramatic Club gave valuable assistance to this production. The Fall River Children's Theater Bureau sponsored a Youth Concert cm Monday afternoon, April 17, The program was given by the Orchestra, Chorus, and Boys’ Glee Club under the direction of Professor Bjorner Bergethon of the University of New Hampshire. This concert was repeated on April 23 with the assistance of the Girls’ Glee Club. The Boys’ Glee Club were guest artists at the April meeting of the Fall River Music Club. The Orchestra opened a concert May 17 given by the Fall River Music Club, to raise money for records and musical instruments which were sent to the service men. The Orchestra played at Class Day and Graduation. SPEAKERS1 BUREAU President Lillian Kurlan Secretary Booker Gloria E. Urcelay William Kay Kathleen Baker, Dorothy Blanchard, Katherine Buckley, Francisco Cabral, Dexter Cohen, Bertha Collins, Barbara Davidson, Wilfred Driscoll, Ralph Dupont, Florence Fiore, Claire Fitzpatrick, Sidney Friedman, Fay Futoransky, Estelle Garonsky, Paul Greenberg, Collette Grenier, Thomas Higgins, Joseph Holland, Laurette Houde, Constance Hyslop, Elaine Jagoda, Patricia Jewell, Mildred Jackson, Elaine Kline, Muriel Kneen, Jacqueline LaForest, Norman Leigh, Loretta McDonald,Mary Mello, Mar- jorie Murphy, Esmer Nelson, Claire Paquet, Audrey Roberts, Elaine Rodman, Jennie Salwan, Sylvia Settlow, Mary Sherry, Elaine Sicard, Lulu Smith, Lillian Souza, William Suneson, Raymond Turgeon, Phyllis Walton, Anthony Wong, Marion Stavros, Mary Zaidan, Ronald Zimmerman. How are our school activities advertised? Is there an organized way of doing this? How can pupils obtain experience in addressing real audiences? Why, in the Speakers' Bureau, of course! In its second year of existence the Speakers’ Bureau has played an important part in advertising and giving pupils experience in public speaking. The Speakers’ Bureau is an organization of seniors chosen for excellence by the teachers of Public Speaking. Members of the Students’ Council belong ex-officio. Miss Elizabeth L. Leonard is faculty advisor. TRAFFIC SQUAD Although hampered by the lack of a captain, the members of the Traffic Squad have executed their duties this year, as in many former years. Under the able direction of the faculty advisor and the lieutenants, the squad has enforced traffic regulations during lunch periods, at the entrances and on the stairways during each school day. Although the stairways are marked, the inability of many to com- prehend what they read makes necessary the presence of some law enforcer such as Lieutenant Dennis Medeiros or Lieutenant Norman Word ell. Miss Miles and her force would like to thank the seniors for their cooperation which through the last three years has made traffic problems at Durfee much easier to cope with. First Lieutenants—Antone Mattos, Dennis Medeiros, Donald Ash- worth, Bertram Halliwell. Second Lieutenants—Louise Eager, Norman Worded, Frank Guar- mere, Norman J. Oliver. Faculty Advisor—Miss E. Estelle Miles. WAR BONDS AND STAMPS CASHIERS This new organization had its inception immediately after the out- break of the present World War, December 8, 1941. From a small group of eight members it has almost trebled in size because of the increased demand for Defense Stamps and Bonds. There is a cashier assigned to handle from five to twelve home rooms. Orders for War Stamps and Bonds are brought to the cashier by the home room directors. The money is then counted, prepared, and after certain financial reports are completed, it is taken to the bank by a police officer. The Bonds and Stamps are brought to the school and distributed to the respective home room directors. To date, these cashiers have handled Four War Loan Drives. They have accurately accounted for over one half million dollars and have never lost a penny! During the year, this organization has assisted the Rationing Board, the Red Cross, and Fall River Civic Music Association and has always rendered very efficient service. The names of the cashiers are as follows: Lucille Cayer, Bertha Collins, Lorraine Desjardins, Nancy Dubanevich, Rita Dumais, Arline Dunn, Irene Dutka, Jessie Kalil, Gloria Letendre, Lucy Machado, Eleanor MacWhinnie, Margaret Peterson, Frances Postiglione, Beatrice Rashkovsky, Jennie Salwan, Gladys Shea, Rita Tolley. The Faculty Advisors are Mr. George C. Hoar and Miss Anne L. O’Neil. CAMERA CLUB President Charles W. Duby Vic e Presiden t Claire M. T. Halbardier Secretary Rita A. Bumais Faculty Advisor Mr. Joseph J. Lawlor The Durfee Camera Club began its customary activities rather late in the present school year. Because of the war and its resulting calls upon the students for assistance, both in school and out of school, the program had to be consid- erably curtailed. Appreciating the need of some beneficial extra-curricular activity the officers carried out a modified program. Several speakers addressed the members regarding photography in its various phases and open dis- cussions were conducted. Lack of necessary supplies and equipment due to war restrictions hampered the club in teaching its members advanced photography technique. The main effort by the officers was to maintain the continuity of the Durfee Camera Club from the past through the present trying times into the future so that students may have continued possibilities for beneficial extra-curricular activities. In an effort to arouse enthusiasm in a cheering section, practice was held for all students interested and was directed by the cheerleaders. At several home games, sections of the grand- stand were reserved for members of this group. The cheerleaders are to be commended not only for their spirit, their enthusiasm, and their attractiveness, but also for the fact that they had perfect attendance at all games, regardless of weather or transportation difficulties. Members of the squad include Nancy Dubanevich, head cheerleader, Marian Furze, Mary Sullivan, Helen Machado, Lorraine Mello, and Irene Ramalho GIRLS’ NUMERAL CLUB Vice President President Mary Zaidan Elaine Rodman Cynthia Betagh Secretary Due to war conditions and a greater stress on physical fitness the Girls’ Numeral Club this year attempted to offer a more varied program in order to provide every girl at Durfee an opportunity to participate in some type of athletics. In the fall, a ping pong contest was held in which 45 freshmen took part. An indoor commando course was set up in the gym and every girl was encouraged to compete in setting a time record. Sophomores who expressed a desire to enter into athletic programs were invited to the annual Play Day where they were given an oppor- tunity to meet members and to become acquainted with the purpose and aims of the Numeral Club. Club members held weekly classes to improve their capability in refereeing. They later sponsored basketball tournaments for both fresh- men and sophomore girls during the winter months. In the spring a badminton tournament was offered for junior and senior girls. As a closing event to the yearly program an Individual Competitive Meet was sponsored for all girls excelling in athletics. The Girls’ Numeral Club is composed of 45 sophomore, junior, and senior girls who are active in promoting girls’ athletics at Durfee. The faculty advisor is Miss Virginia W. Frost. GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TEAM Breaking a precedent of long standing the Durfee girls obtained permission for a varsity basketball team. The schedule for the year included games with North Attleboro High, Dartmouth, and Somerset, with return tilts against the latter two. The record has been most impressive as Durfee won all five games. Next year will find many promising athletes coming into the field who will give their opponents stiff competition and carry on the excellent record setiby the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team of 1944. Standing, left to right—Jean Fearnley, Margaret Livesey, Mildred Jackson, Muriel Kneen, Victoreen Ashker, scorer, Elaine Rodman, Dorothy Dusoe, timer, Madeline Hamel. FOOTBALL By compiling a record of sevens wins against two losses the- 1943 football team set one of the most auspicious records made by a Durfee High team in several seasons. Only New Bedford’s crimson horde succeeded in defeating the powerful offensive machine which had tallied 172 points in seven games. Led by the sensatonal swivel-hipped Captain Charles Y. Carroll, Jr., Durfee defeated all of its other scholastic rivals. A green but game team boasting only three men with experience clashed with Rogers High to inaugurate the season. Rogers proved little match for the Red and Black and were easily trounced 25-0. In the same manner Somerville Trade and Attleboro followed suit, bowing 38-0 and 26-0 respectively and then, on a sunny Columbus Day morning on Alumni Field, unscored-on Durfee tangled with New Bedford. In a well-played thrilling game the Whalers came out on top of a 6-0 score. Following this setback Durfee traveled to Taunton. With Captain Carroll scoring twice Durfee gained a 14-7 victory. A small but peppy North Attleboro team fell the victim to a superior power on their own field and lost 24-7. New Bedford Vocational was mangled 26-0. Before a capacity throng on a rainy Armistice Day the Red and Black came from behind in the last period to score three times in rapid succession to down Coyle’s Warriors 19-7 and then, on Thanksgiving Day morning on Sargent Field, a fighting Durfee team minus one of its great stars, Fred Kozak, went down to defeat 13-0. BASKETBALL The 1944 B. M. C. Durfee basketball team under Coach Urban was comprised chiefly of juniors and sophomores with only five senior hoop- sters on the roster: “Chick” Carroll, TAlex” Smith, Horden Howard, '’Tom” Doyle and “Bill” O’Brien. The first team was composed of four juniors— cc-captains Fred Kozak and Roger Sullivan, guards “Bill” Matte and Harold Peterson. The sole other slot was filled chiefly by Howard and Carroll although O’Brien, Smith and Doyle filled in occasionally. The team had great possibilities, having all the necessities for a winning quintet—speed, height, scoring punch, nerve and spirit—but for some unknown reason the boys just couldn’t get going. The season’s record of 8 wins and 6 defeats was a considerable improvement over the record set by the ’43 team. Kozak and Sullivan were the high scoring combination, the former an all-County star and the team’s spark plug. “Charlie” Carroll left before the Attleboro game for Williams College in the V-12 Unit. O’Brien also left during the season to join the service. Although the record was only slightly above a .500 percentage the team really was a better club than the record shows. Seniors Howard, Carroll, Smith, O’Brien, Doyle and Student Manager “Joe” Holland received letters. The highlights of the season were the victory over New Bedford Vocational, the score registered against Attleboro and the two victories over the Taunton five. BASEBALL Durfee fielded one of the most powerful baseball nines in many a year and at the time of publication the boys had won seven straight games with ease. In but seven games, the Durfee power array dubbed “Murderers’ Row” by the local newspaper, had compiled a total of 91 runs and 110 hits. Paced by Captain “Bob” Tripp and seniors, “Tom” Doyle, “Bob” Ban- ville, Harold Parsons and “Tom” Ouellette, Durfee had little difficulty whipping its first seven opponents by prodigious scores. New Bedford Vocational fell 10-1 and 20-7 in the first two games of a three-game series; New Bedford High bowed 12-6, with three games scheduled. Taunton was whaled 13-3 and 16-2; Coyle was beaten 9-1 at Coyle, and Rogers proved little better, losing an 11-5 decision. With all but one of the first eight men batting .300 or better Durfee had the most potent club in the county. “Tom” Ouellette, “Jack” Robinson and “Bill” Kay were senior hurlers. The former won three of the first seven games. Seniors Doyle, Tripp, Banville and Parsons were the leading batters for the first seven games. “Tom” Doyle and Tripp were among the members of the squad who poled out home runs. Other seniors on the roster were catcher “Red” Murray, second base Frank Shay, outfielder-pitcher John Azevedo, and shortstop Paul Collis. TENNIS The Durfee Tennis Team, under the direction of Coach Ambrose F. Keeley, anticipates this year a brief schedule and a series of intra-mural matches Many schools have abandoned tennis for the time being, but the team has been able to arrange matches on a home-and-home basis with the following opponents: Tabor Academy, Marion, Mass.; Moses Brown Academy, Providence, R. L; Portsmouth Priory, Portsmouth, R. L Possibly before the season opens other matches with New Bedford High, Providence Classical High, and Attleboro High will have been scheduled. Match arrangements have been ably handled by William Long ’44, in bis capacity of player-manager. Other members of the class of 1944 likely to see action on the courts this year are Donald Chytilo, James Borden, and Harold Cohen, all of whom represented Durfee in tennis last year. VARSITY CLUB The Varsity Club, composed of all athletes who have won letters in sports, has completed its 12th year Under the direction of Coach Luke Urban it has enjoyed a successful season, both socially and financially. The annua] “Varsity Nite” performance which played to its usual capacity audience was directed by Miss Elizabeth L. Leonard and Mr. John J. Harrington, and consisted of boxing bouts and sports movies. However, the smashing feature of the show was a fashion prevue of the current feminine styles, modelled by the most masculine members of the club. From the proceeds of this affair sweaters for all members were pur- chased, as well as athletic equipment for the gym.
