16 Teresa Wallace, B.A. English I and English IV were taught by Miss Wallace. From Winterset, Iowa, Miss Wallace was also the Cat's Meow sponsor. She received her B,A, in English at the University of Iowa. This was her first year of teaching in Durant. I i I I David Holm quist, B.S. Mr. Holmquist of Saint Peter, Minnesota was the g wrestling and assistant football coach. He taught high school physical education for boys. Mr. Holmquist received his degree for his first year of teaching from Mankato State College. 'Y Sandra McCarty, B.S. From Promise City, Iowa, Miss McCarty completed her second year at Durant. She taught Spanish and English courses and was the Pep Club and junior class sponsor. Miss McCarty received her education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. F acult Norman Mitts, B.A. Coaching girls softball and basketball was Norman Mitts of Elgin, Iowa. Completing his sixth year of teaching at Durant, Mr. Mitts earned his degree at the State College of Iowa. He was also junior high science teacher and girls D-Club sponsor. Patricia Jacobs, B.S. Girls physical education classes were taught for the seventh year by Mrs. Jacobs, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mrs. Jacobs studied at Coe College and the University of Iowa, she was also the cheer leading sponsor.

L35 :Lit ,, fi? 'Q Dennis Powles, B.A. Mr. Powles taught American history, world history, and elementary physical education. In his first year at Durant, he also coached junior high football, high school basketball, track, and cross-country. Mr. Powles is from Sidney, Iowa, and studied at Parsons College, the University of Iowa, and the University of Florida. in Varied Subjects Armond A, Borchardt, B.A,, M.A. Mr. Borchardt in his fourth year at Durant was guidance counselor and taught psychology and sociology. From Osage, Iowa, he has studied at Iowa Wesleyan College, Iowa State Teachers College, the University of Iowa, and Western Illinois University. James Farrell, B.A. The speech department this year was headed by Mr. Farrell. Radio news and an active debate program were added to the speech department by Mr. Farrell, who was in his first year of teaching. He graduated from the State College of Iowa and is from Fort Dodge, Iowa. ffl XM' Betty Paul, B.A, Mrs. Paul taught government and economics at Durant in her first year of teaching. She received her education at the University of Iowa and Marycrest College. From Humboldt, Iowa, Mrs. Paul also served as a sophomore class sponsor.

Darlene Reinert competently and pleasantly performed the many tasks of the superintendent's office for the first year. Mrs. Lora Long served diligently as high school office secretary. Through Mrs. Long must pass almost all the business of our busy high school. Per ormers 0 Vital Services The seemingly endless and sometimes thankless job of preparing thousands of meals was accomplished through the hard work of Head Cook Florence Johnson, Gertrude Kook, Elizabeth Hain, and Vanola Siems. A aafs -.qqqqv if :Q 1 7 4 t n K' Each rural student can find the person in the picture above who got up earlier and came home later than he did Bus drivers were William Stoltenberg Roy Lammers, Bernard Soppe, Paul Riessen, Lester Langmann, Albert Geurink, Norma Ramm, Vernon Riessen Elmer Makoben and Connie Bein These men were too busy to be assembled for a picture-- they were our school janitors This year Hugo Reimers Elmer Kroening, and Harlyn Schult were the custodians who kept our school proudly neat and clean.
