f x Theta Psi Om ega Two major changes occurred within the fraternity now known as Theta Psi Omega this year. Once known as the Pershing Rifles, the fraternity dropped its military qualifi- cations to become primarily a social organization on cam- pus. Official recognition came in February and the group is now known as Theta Psi Omega fraternity. The second major change within the fraternity was that they sold their famous white fire engine which was used for transportation to social activities. Participation in the Fall Carnival the brothers ran a booth on the lot called, The PR Gambling Casino. Athletically they competed in all activities: football, basketball, bowling and softball. In the annual Greek Sing competition they sang Moments to Remember and Over Theren under the direction of brother George Iupinko. The primary social activity of the year was a co- sponsorship of the Military Ball held at the Penn-Sheraton Hotel featuring Frank Iarema and his orchestra. Miss Carol Valkanas was their sweetheart. One of the most socially active fraternities on campus, the brothers of Sigma Chi Theta sponsored many activities this year open to the entire student body. In the fall semester they co-sponsored the Carnival show, Go Live in a Tree,', with Tau Delta Tau Sorority and won the third place trophy. Although they participated in all athletic competition, basketball proved to be their forte as they captured the first place trophy in the Inter-Fraternity Basketball League. However, they lost the school championship to the representative from the Independent League. Socially the Sigma Chi's sponsored another Big Blast in the fall followed by the Derby Days competition in the spring. Hoping to establish Derby Days as a yearly social activity, the Sigma Chi's initiated this event which places sorority against sorority in com- petition for a trophy.
