Then me found ourselves in unior High School whcic me mct new friends and attended our Inst football games, basketball games, and te'1 dances. XVL finally 'trriv ed 'tt the ninth grade and at thc top of our little world. That year our foot- ball 'ind basketball te'nns copped the Junior XX .I'.I.A.L. titles. Sonic of us also pnticipated in the choruses and the writing of the High Lights our school newspaper. XX hat 1 let-down we met 'ts we started our high school c'1reers as lowly sophomores. How- ever the girls found '1 new 0lQ lllil'lll0Il, the Y-Tccns, created especially for them and the boys could of course IJ'll'llCllJ'llC in sports while our journalism minded friends found THE lb. 5l'llSlN.X. 'i Yext Ve became uniors and had the tln ll of electing our own class officers and May Queen. Hle voted to purchase an electric organ for our school in cooperation with the Class of '-19. This was done to help make the chapel programs more inspiring and to commemorate our class. Finally, we attained our goal by becoming seniors and rulers of our little domain. During this year we got those awful graduation pic- tures taken and exchanged name cards with our fellow grads. Our football team went down to defeat at the hands of our arch rival, Mc- Keesport. This fact was quite over-shadowed when our basketball team beat the Tigers on the Vocational court as this feat had not been performed for seven years. Then too, in our senior year we found many more activities opened to us than had previously been the ease. Now our graduation day has come and as every other class has been we, too, are sorry to leave D.H.S. and head for other adventures. ,fef ,Vw -if A C fi! .sf f lf. The Pursers ,Xlways efficient and on the job-this is the Cashier's Group, one of the hardest working organizations in Duquesne High School. Un- der the supervision of Miss Ruth Meighen and Miss Eleanor Hrebenach, these boys and girls carry out their duties in the interest of their fellow students. Each Tuesday morning they record the money deposited by the students in their School Savings Accounts. However, handling School Savings is only one of their llliilly obli- gations. In their homerooms, the cashiers superintend payments for subscriptions to the school newspaper and to the Echo yearbook. They also collect money for movies shown to the student body, for tickets to athletic events, and for entertainment held by student organ- izations. In their senior year, the cashiers have an added charge, that of collecting deposits on graduation pictures. In appreciation of their services, all cashiers are presented with a free subscription to the Echo, and an invita- tion to the Echo picnic. For many years leaders in School Savings, Room 2l has again achieved an enviable bank- ing record, one-hundred percent savings for the year. These sounds were typical proof of the efficient way in which the Student Guidance Crnnicil-sometimes re- ferred to as vocational guidance-began their third year of existence in D.H.S. As an ever-turning wheel, our Student Guid- ance goes on and on without stopping. The hub of this wheel, Miss Martha Regester, is always the same. But as the years go by, the spokes differ since the sophomores, juniors and seniors rise to higher levels. llnder the helpful leadership of our coun- selor, two representatives from each home room met in room 24 to plan vocational guid- ance progranis. These programs were of great interest and value to everyone, especially to the seniors. Besides being a meeting place, room 2-I is also a lending library where such books as Know Yourself and Dating Days can be obtained to help students to help themselves. XVe know that the sophomores and juniors are looking forward to another year with Guid- ance, while the seniors are hopeful that they made a wise choice for an occupation.
