International Fellowship - An open door to friendship and under- standing - Teenage Ambassadors from Abroad. These are but a few of the terms used to describe the American Field Service program which introduced the first foreign Exchange Student in the Duval County area. Although the majority of organi- zation in AFS is left to the Senior Chapter composed of adults in the community, there are many phases dealing with the school that cannot be brought about effectively with- out the help of the students them- selves. The first AFS club of duPont High was formed in the spring of 1962. The club worked all summer in order to prepare the way for Lise Blom Hartvigsen, our exchange student from Norway. During the school year, AFS arranged public appearances for Lise at various in- terested organizations, an assembly at mid-year in which she reported various impressions of America to the students, and a Norwegian Christmas party. In order to improve upon this year's program, AFS has instituted various changes in the present pro- gram for next year. Four juniors were registered for the Americans Abroad program, making it a pos- sibility that they may be foreign exchange students in other coun- tries. Part of the cost for this pro- gram, as well as that for possibly two exchange students here next year was raised at different intervals of the school year.
