During recent years the students have turned Student Council from merely an honor organization into a service organization to which it's an honor to belong. Student Council's purpose is to serve the entire Student Body and School. To be a member of Student Council the student must participate in order to attain 50 points per quarter, thus the membership changes frequently. Student Council is one of the more active organizations in school. They sponsor several of the school's activities throughout the year: Homecoming Festivities, Christmas activities, Class elections, and supported several athletic events by making posters and buttons. This year Student Council took on a new task and sponsored the Snow Ball. Student Council participates in the Kaskaskia District of Student Councils and the Illinois Association of Student Councils and attends the workshops and conventions they sponsor. Student Council is respected highly by the townspeople and the school both. It is an organization that benefits everyone. The members consider the work fun and rewarding. AND FRESHMEN Freshmen: Lori Boland, Cathy Brooks, Jill Koch, Angela Macke, Karen Mallet, Julia Showmaker IS 16 The programs provided are supposed to increase our cultural, intellectual, and creative self. But most of them are just I™ for fun! Here we are, at our Friday Morning Activity Class. 17 I N S c H O 0 L A C T 1 V I T I E S And what about all those wonderful kids in horticulture feeding all those greedy green creatures so they may live and thrive within the future homemakers' homes? Friday in-school activities give a break to everyday class hassles. What would life be like without Mrs. Wohlwend's business students writing business letters to each other? How would it be if there were no Future Homemakers clubs to encourage future homemakers? What would we do without small engine repair persons to repair small engines within every future homemakers' home? 18 Thank you, Mr. Malone, for invigorating our spirits for the great out-doors! What could be better than a Friday morning cycle run, committing alias acts of terrorism down a crowded hall between classes? What Fun!! And to the members of Dramatics Arts: we rejoice for your repeated levity, violence, mystery, and suspense you've presented to us. 19 — Under the direction of Mr. Fred Young, the D.C.H.S. Band had an extremely successful year. Highly talented, these students dedica-tedly played at sport events, assemblies, helped to make the spring musical a success, and rounded out the year with a highly entertaining band concert. 20 Brian Stewart Bryan Phillips Barb Arras Dave Thompson Michelle Ladyman Carole Mudd Careth Hazel Elizabeth Elliott Ms. Raker Teresa Thompson Tammy Kunkel Jane Mentel Brenda Branson Kathy Hofstetter Cindy King Chris Noethen Robin Howie Cindy Ladyman Linda Ferry Kim Wilhelm Cheryl Peters Debbie Schaeffer Julia Lambert Doris Williams Diana Wooters H O N O R S 0 c 1 E T Y Honor Society is a select group of students chosen by a special committee of teachers. MCKENDREE MODEL UNITED NATIONS Each year students from many schools in the area gather at McKendree College, Lebanon, to participate in a mock United Nations debate. Dupo is traditionally represented by a group of senior history students, although this year some juniors joined the delegation. The students this year represented the countries: Angola, Brazil, and Japan. Angola's delegates were Paul Brinkmann in the General Assembly, Ad Hoc and Political committees, and Sonia Olsson who was in Economic-Social, Social-Cultural, and Humanitarian. Japan's delegates were Michelle Ladyman, Tammy Kunkel, Brian Stewart, Cheryl Peters, and Carole Mudd. Brazil's delegates were Cindy Ladyman, Betty Stahlschmidt, Debbie Schaeffer, and Cindy King. They Heatedly argue world problems from the point-of-view of the countries they represent. The students return with a new and deeper understanding of the world's problems. Ms. Raker is the sponsor. 26 ECHO Produced by, for, and about DCHS students JOURNALISM STUDENTS PRODUCE MONTHLY PUBLICATION Staff members shown below: Front: Debbie Koch, Beth Poettgen, Teresa Thompson.
