ROBFRT FRITTS Edztof I Remember Gee rt seems lrke thrs was the greatest year of hrgh school for me I guess your senror year rs always lrke that You see Im Student Sprrxt I never graduate too fond of good old D C H S ever to leave Rrght now I m lookrng back over these last four years and remrnrscrng over teachers and assrgn ments that had me worrred frantrc when they were fresh but are now sort of mellowed and rosy re membrances Call me sentrmental rf you want but Im lookrng back even farther to a trme when our school had rts begrnnrng whrch was about 1915 At that trme the students enjoyed many of the actrvrtres we enloy today Many of our act1v1t1es orrgrnated rn the late 20 s or early 30 s For rnstance rn 1927 I remember hear mg the frrst farnt strarns of musrc echo down the halls when choruses and an orchestra were organrzed Later the orchestra was dlscontrnued rn favor of a band Today we have a wonderful band to play at football and basketball games and assemblres band that keeps our enthusrastrc school sp1r1t at a fever prtch' I recall the year 1929 when the D Club was organrzed wrth ten charter members Its purpose was to uphold clean sportsmanshrp rn all phases of athletrc actrvrtres rn D C H S At the present our Varsrty Club rs very much the same Also 1n 29 one lazv fall afternoon when all was quret a group of stu dents got together to organrze a Pep Club known as the acket Club and later named the Pep Club I guess you mrght say we strll have a Pep Club a brg one' the entrre student body led by a group of hard workrng cheerleaders I remember 1950 when our Home Economrcs Department became affrlrated wrth the Natronal Home Fconomrcs Assocratron and a club was formed somethrng lrke our present F H A 1932 was a brg year for our school mrnds and typewrrters alrke started clrckrng to put together the frrst El Trgre And rn the sprrng a tradrtron that wrll never be outmoded came to our school football Other early actrvrtres rncluded Publrc Speakrng Current Events Club Law Club Nature Club and a Debatrng Team These kept everybody pretty busy don t you thrnk? ust as we do today each class had the responsrbrlrty of sponsorrng an entertarnment Senrors sponsored an Athletrc Carnrval and a hay rrde unrors a hrke a party and a Basketball Banquet dont remem ber what the Sophomores drd and Freshmen a hay rrde How could I thrnk about our school wrthout remembermg 46 when our brg smokestack was struck by l1ghtn1ng9 Boy you should have seen rt' brrcks everywhere Hrgh school days are days I wrll never forget As long as I lrve Ill always cherrsh the thought of the fun frlled hours of 3Cf1V1f1CS frrends and the vuonderful opportunrtres of an educatron Of course now we re back to the present trme but rf you ll come wrth me to journey back over thrs last year I wrll tell you rn detarl everythmg that I REMEMBER ' 1 .1 , . . , . . , , , Y . . . - - - 1 . . 7 . 7 . . , . . 1 7 ' 7 . . . . . . , , , , . . - v 1 , . 1 - 1 1- n - - . . . . . . .
