MurPhY Taylgf R. Taylor frfvx-I Il'1'L Football ll92.6 T was a very hot day last September when thirty five boys reported l for the Hrst practice of the year The total football knowledge of that squad of boys could have been wr1tten on a penny post card But they were eager to learn and after the squad had been selected I l they absorbed football as eagerly as any bunch of boys could When the team of eleven boys trotted out on the field for their first game at Redding they had the confidence of a yeteran team Redding scored two touchdowns in the first half because the Dunsmuir team suffered so many pen altles due to their lnexperience ln the second half of th game the Dunsmuir team showed thelr real ablllfy when they held the veteran Redding scoreless Result Redding 14 Dunsmuir 0 The first game vsith Yreka was played at Dunsmuir The Dunsmuir boys were over conndent which resulted in a great downfall for them l the first half of the game Dunsmuir scored the first touchdown of the game when Plscher made a touchdown from a blocked kick ln the last part of the game Yreka ran a deceptiye play called a fakt reverse and made a touchdown The Dunsmuir team was a very crestfallen bunch of boys at the end of the game Result Yreka 6 Dunsmuir 6 The second game with Yreka was played at Yreka This promised to be a hard fought game for both sides The teams pounded each other time ifter time without managing to score a touchdown The game ended with a O to 0 tie The third game was played with Alturas at Dunsmuir The people thought that Alturas would win the game by a wide margln But the Tigers entered the game and fought like the Tigers they were In the early part V the game our star end Frank Solinsky scooped up a fumble and ran twenty yards to a touchdovxn The Tigers falled to convert and the score stood 6 to 0 in Dunsmuirs favor In the latter part of the game Alturis com pleted a forward pass for a touchdown they failed to make their conversioi and the game ended with a 6 to 6 tie On November 6 Dunsmuir and Yreka were face to face once more on the local field This promised to be the best game of the season for the Tigers as well as the spectators ln the early part of the game Yreka work ei a criss cross play and ran the ball to our three yard line in four downs and the ball was lost to Dunsmuir The Tigers ran the ball back out of dan ger and then kicked Up to the last tive minutes of play the game Nickle halfback ran for a touchdown and then conyerted After the kickoff a few minutes were spent in scrimmage in the middle of the field and then Xreka punted The ball was re eived by Burton Leahy our quarterback who ran forty yards for another touchdown Very good interference helped him carry the ball across the line Nickle again converted and the game ended with the score 14 to 0 in favor of Dunsmuir On Armistice Day the team journeyed to Alturas for a return game The day dawned very cold and it was a very unpleasant game all around as the score shows IV V TT , - 1 lf?
